Recruit these 2021 Georgia players, college coaches
We talk about the star power a lot in prep basketball coverage. I have zero problem with that. Those guys deserve it. But I also love talking about players that deserve the attention of college coaches, especially in the era where the guys with the scholarships are left to watching streamed games online.
The connectors matter more than ever. So, with 20 years of experience under my belt, I think I can say with authority on who has the talent to warrant a scholarship offer. I’d like to do this idea more often here on HoopSeen.com. Truth be told, I think we do it as well as any publication. But I digress.
We had so much talent at the Always Live Showcase. There were plenty of players to talk about, and we certainly have already. So, let’s talk about these four Georgia players and how they nee
What more can I say about him? He’s had a tremendous summer and has been one of the best point guards I’ve seen from the Peach State all travel season long. But, yet, we don’t hear about him being a high priority with college recruiters. That needs to change. Burruss steps up in big games. He competes. He flat out competes. He plays with efficiency on both sides of the ball. He scores when he needs to score. He leads as a general when he needs to lead. Most importantly, he wins with this good Team Huncho group. To me, it’s an easy decision for mid-level programs to move in and get serious with Burruss.
I’ve long professed my appreciation for Smith here on HoopSeen.com. I’m a huge fan of his ability to impact the game without having to be a threat on the offensive end of the floor. He is one of the best rebounders and shot-blockers there is in the state of Georgia’s 2021 class. Smith is a monster in the paint. File him under the “do your job” category. He shined for Aim High over the weekend. Every time I watch him, I wonder why more programs aren’t circling the wagons. I’m looking at you schools in the Atlantic Sun. He should be a priority guy for schools in that league. No. Brainer. Guy.
What he is now and where he is going to be in time is what intrigues me about the Team Forrest guard. For starters, he has the size that should catch you eye. At 6-foot-6, Cole has terrific positional size and a stroke that makes ya sit up a little taller in your chair. I think he’s still a couple of years away from being a guy that makes a big difference at the college level but I like the tools that he is working with now and the direction he can go to be a steal for a college program. Size matters at the next level. Now mix in shooting and athleticism and you have some of the things that just translate well. We talk about sleepers a lot at this level and Cole could develop into a steal for a collegiate program that can help further develop his intriguing game.
The Albany, Georgia native has been a nice revelation for me this month. He caught my attention at the Bama Jam and then followed things up with a good showing at the Always Live Showcase. Wingfield plays like a running back look for gaps in the offensive line to explode through but does it in a way that you never know that he's turning up the speed. His control and pace may be his best trait. Then when the game gets going fast, he can go to a different gear and knows how to shine in speed. Wingfield has great strength for a guard and is worth a good deep dive for regional programs looking for a tough and composed floor general.
