2019 Elite Preview Top Performers: Part II
The 2019 Elite Preview was loaded with the next wave talent in the state of Georgia and various states in the Southeast. We polled our staff and coaches to determine the top overall performers from the camp. Here is the second wave of our top guys from Sunday's action at Suwanee Sports Academy.
Bigs that can run, catch, and play with a non-stop motor are some of the rarest pieces to find in the basketball universe. All of those things are wrapped up nicely in the seven-foot package of freshman forward Gai Chol. Watching a prospect of that size go from end to end with very little downtime was impressive, as Chol kept up with or outran the sub-six-footers. From kick-outs from the block to altering a few layups, the well-rounded play from Chol was seen often on both ends. The potential is obvious and the production was expected. It will be a fun ride as we watch him develop into a household name. - Tai Young
Davis made use of the offseason by redefining both his game and his frame. The noticeably slimmer sophomore made use of his new build by crafting his way past defenders and getting into the paint. Before getting an outlet pass you could see his wheels turning as he came into the possessions with a plan of attack. There was beauty in watching the simple, yet effective approach to the way he both scored and facilitated. While others over dribbled and had no purpose with the ball, Davis would go on to be one of the more efficient players at our Elite Preview camp. - Tai Young
Grant had another showing in front of our staff at the Elite Fall Preview. The 6-foot-5 forward has a position-less game and impacts the game all over the floor. He was the most well-rounded prospect in attendance, as he showed the ability to effectively score, rebound, pass, and defend throughout the day. Grant was able to showcase his ability to play multiple positions in one possession by securing the defense rebound, starting the break in transition, and making the correct play for his teammates. Grant should be a priority prospect for college programs going forward. I think he’s a solid four-year player that wins a lot of games at the college level. - Garrett Tucker
If Sunday was any indication, it’s going to be fun to watch the development of freshman Tahj Johnson. Despite only being a 9th grader, the Hart County (GA) product was one of the most bouncy and athletic players in attendance. The 6-foot-6 forward was active on the offensive glass where he made several tough finishes in the air off of missed shots from teammates. Johnson displayed a consistent motor and was a high energy guy throughout the day. With a long, wiry frame and elite athleticism, he is a prospect that could really take some big strides during the high school season. Once his skill-set develops and he figures some more things out of the offensive end of the floor, watch out — Johnson could be one of Georgia’s next talented young prospect on deck. - Garrett Tucker
