Chase Crawford’s Notebook from Day 2 at US Amateur Nationals

Top Performees:

Frenelson Atilus Riviera Beach Chargers 2023

This kid was without question my favorite player to watch today. Atilus was able to score the ball from absolutely anywhere on the court which included two monstrous dunks for the small 8th grade guard. He also displayed an impressive jumper. Atilus will be attending Dwyer High School in Florida this year and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the guard making some noise next season.

Jonzell Norris All Ohio Gold 2020

I was really impressed with Norris’s game today. The guard was able to facilitate the offense well in some crucial wins for the 17U teams and showed mental toughness in his ability to attack the basket and either score himself or dish it off to a teammate.

Best Team:

Loyalty 1st 13U

This team just continued to impress me and while they only played one game today they’ve flat out dominated. No one seems to be able to stop their fast break tempo and it shows as they’ve won all three of their games by a combined 144 points... Just pure dominance and an excellent team this weekend as they play for the championship tomorrow.

Best Game

Dream Elite vs NET 11U

This semifinal game for the 11U championship was one for the ages. A back and forth game all night came down to the very last possession in overtime at that. Jordan Rouse had an exceptional game for NET with 24 points and when NET took the lead at 50-48, Dream Elite had one last opportunity. With 4 seconds, they got off a good shoot right at the basket that spun around the rim and came out, resulting in a win for NET to advance to the championship game tomorrow.
