Chase Crawford’s Notebook from Day 1 at USA Amateur Nationals

USA Amateur Nationals at Lakepoint was off to a fast start on Thursday.

TOP PLAYERS

Raymond Perry, Team Speights 2021

Perry had a breakout game last weekend at the Best of the South against Chris Livingston. His performances today followed suit with a 25 point performance in one of his games Thursday. Perry’s a strong guard that’s quick as well and can shoot as well, very impressed with him today.

Christian Maxon, 12U Zabian Dowdell Select

This kid is a flat out sniper. Maxon scores 26 points including 6 three pointers in his game against Clarksville Crossover, 4 of which took place early in the game. I was also impressed with Maxon’s ability to facilitate the offense in transition. Looking forward to seeing if he’ll keep it up the next few days.

Best Team: Loyalty 1st 13U

This Alabama team completely dominated their games today winning each by 20+ points. On top of that, there were stellar performances from Joshua Flowers (27 pts in the first game), Brandon Cooks (22&21 points in both games) and Terrell Johnson (33 in the second game). Loyalty 1st succeeded mainly from their transition points. Anytime they got a defense rebound, they were down the court in 5 seconds or less getting an easy transition layup. Really impressive outing for the 13U team today.

Best Game: Georgia Stars CH vs Georgia Jayhawks 13U

This game was a thriller to watch. A back and forth game to the end that led to a quite exciting last 3 minutes. It was a tied game with one second remaining and the Stars drew up a perfect play to get a man free for a game winning layup but was blocked by a Georgia Jayhawks player after the buzzer to force overtime. The Stars were able to pull away late and win 64-60 in overtime.
