#BOTS19 Player Profile: Ryan Wilcox, Team WHBH
ATLANTA, GA-HoopSeen’s The Best of the South event for independent travel teams was held last week at The Georgia World Congress Center. Some of the top non-shoe sponsored teams in the country made their way to downtown Atlanta for the event.
Ryan Wilcox, a 6-foot-4 small forward for Team WHBH was one of our sleepers for the entire week. We caught up with the high-rising prospect to discuss his recruitment and learn how he thought the week at The Best of the South went.
Playing with Team WHBH players get the opportunity to be coached by a guy that played at a high-level professionally overseas and had a great college career.
Coach JP Primm, a native of Dickson, Tennessee Primm was a standout at UNC-Asheville from 2008-2012 followed by a professional career overseas.
We bring this up about Primm’s career because Wilcox was one of the best players on a team that has multiple college level prospects on it. Primm knows what he is talking about when he says he doesn’t understand why Wilcox’s recruitment stands where it is at this point.
Athletically Wilcox is advanced for his position and was a player that brought energy and toughness to his Team WHBH squad. Standing 6-foot-4, Wilcox was able to grab rebounds, block shots and score against guys who were 4-5 inches taller.
Wilcox showed the ability to score off the bounce and the ability to score from the perimeter. He possesses a great motor and his dunks leave defenders wondering what just happened.
Throughout the Best of the South, Wilcox averaged close to 16 points per game and collected a handful of rebounds, blocks and steals per outing.
He has one offer at this point from NAIA Florida College and is expected to visit over the next month.
The truth of the matter is that Wilcox is a mid-major Division One talent and he is flying under-the-radar.
