North Carolina Prospects to Watch at HoopSeen Tip-Off

Justin Byerly takes a deeper look at some prospects to watch on North Carolina teams this weekend at the HoopSeen Tip-Off.

Garner Road 17U

Day’Ron Sharpe-The 6-fooot-9 power forward is coming off a NCHSAA 4-A state championship where he was also named MVP on the contest.  The big-bodied forward is a rebounding big that has a soft touch around the basket and runs the floor. Sharpe has committed to Roy Williams and North Carolina.

Carson McCorkle-The Virginia commit is one of the most well-rounded players in the region. He is a high basketball IQ possessing guard that can get hot from behind the arc and has a knack for getting into the lane and scoring. He is coming off a state championship of his own after helping lead Greensboro Day to their third straight title.

Djimon Bailey-The 6-foot-5 Bailey recently picked up his first high-major offer from Danny Manning and Wake Forest. The Greenfield School guard is long and athletic, can get to the rim at will and is a strong defender.

Kaleb Scott-Has a really strong post-up game in the block. Uses really good footwork and a big upper-body to back defenders down for the easy basket. Muscular build, able to score over smaller forwards, attacks the rim on finishes.

Team Trezz Kings 2020

Keishon Porter-Athletic two-way prospect. 6'10 wingspan, defends at a high level.

Reggie Walton- True lead guard, he is an extension of the coach on the floor. Great defender, very vocal on both sides of the court. True leader. Has an offer from Mars Hill University (D2)

Jimmy Forte- Solid built body that he uses very well to get into the lane and can finish with contact. In the open court he is impossible to stop. Can score from all spots on the floor.

Linwood Grandy- Very solid built prospect.  Does a bit of everything, he can shoot, pass and handle the ball at a high-level. Uses his body and strength to get to basket and finish with contact.

Marvin Tucker Jr.- As athletic as they come. 3-sport athlete that plays very instinctive and aggressive.

Kent Gilbert- High IQ player that can shoot at a high rate from all spots on the floor. Vocal player on defensive end and does a good job of staying in passing lanes.

Eric Wynn- Very skilled big that can stretch the floor with a pretty decent touch from outside. Good rebounder and rim protector.

Charlotte Aces

Chiek Traore-6’8 muscular big man that grabs a lot of rebounds and can score in the post. Weighs somewhere in the 225 range and is not easily pushed around. Can block/alter shots. Has decent footwork in the post.

Myles Hunter-6-foot-5 guard that can stretch the floor with his shooting ability, has a strong body. Hunter is an undervalued passer that makes some tough passes look easy.

Kenny Gwynn-Guard that can play multiple positions on the floor. Versatility is the name of this game and he does a lot of things really well on the floor.
