Youth shines on opening night at #BOTS

Joyful Hawkins has a bright future

Coming into Best of the South Joyful Hawkins has really done well for his stock and reputation. When you just look at him you see the potential without him having to pick up a basketball. Standing at 6’7 with freakishly long arms and big hands, Joyful’s measurables are insane and he likely has more growing to do. For the basketball perspective, Joyful is a freak athlete already. Doing virtually every dunk before even started Joyful athleticism is really unmatched at the moment in his class in the state of GA. He has some ability to put it on the floor but still very raw in that aspect and needs an improved shot but Joyful has a lot of tools that will make a lot of coaches and fans happy in the future

West Georgia Warriors Dominant Performance

The 14u West Georgia Warriors had a point to prove coming into the Best of the South. Out the gate this West Georgia Warriors team was dominant, not allowing the Boynton Heat Classic not even make it past half court. WGW, never let there foot off the gas and left Emerson with the most lopsided victory I’ve seen this year 84-13. Joseph Greene lead all scorers with 18 points.

HoopSquad Dynamic Dou

When you watch this HCBC team out of Alabama you can’t help but notice two players that are the complete opposite in stature. Those players are 6’7 Brian Grant and about 5’3 Christian Bryant. Grant, who actually comes by way of Florida had a humongous frame for his age. Still extremely raw in terms of skill, Grant is a relentless player in the paint and that along with his wide body allows him to dominate. Another player on that team whose physical features are opposite of Grant is the 5’3 point guard Christian Bryant. Bryant, was one of the best shooters I saw in action at Best of the South so far. You can’t give him any space, and if you do, just chalk up the 3 points. This tandem will be interesting to watch as they continue to give teams problems at Best of the South.

Atl Big 5 Completeness

Joyful Hawkins will be the center of attraction until he goes on to college. But that doesn’t mean his team doesn’t have other guys that garner attention. In fact it’s the opposite as this Atl Big 5 Team has a plethora of players that have a bright future. Starting combo guard Scoot Henderson lead all scorers Thursdayw/ 21 points. Scoot is a 6’2 guard who is athletic and shoot. If Scoot continues to work on his game, as with anybody that age or any age playing the game, he will be a for sure problem for opposing teams. The other starting backcourt piece, Kaden McArthur also has a lot of tools that has his coaches foaming at the mouth. Kaden plays with great pace and is a really good decision maker. He also has a pretty nice stroke. Other guys, 2023 Parish Johnson, Khyle Cowan, and Cam Johnson, help boast this team as a whole and paired w/ Joyful Hawkins makes this team as complete as any in the 2022 class.

Gods Property’s Trey Smith Delivers

For most of the day on court 1 and 2 here at Best of the South, the games were mostly 14u kids. Moving on later in the night the older kids came over and so did the college coaches. About 30 coaches came to watch the 2019 Gods Property vs. SR1 All Stars. Full of Ivy League and academically respected division 1 and 2 schools, point guard Trey Smith did nothing but help his stock. Trey was very patient throughout the game and continuously read the defense for mistakes. He ahas a great shooting stroke as well which always kept defenders on the swivel. Trey ended up w/ 16 points and lead his team to a 30 point win. Trey Smith definitely helped his stock with his great play, paired w/ his 4.72 gpa, Smith will be someone to keep an eye on for the rest of the summer and during the school year.
