Quick hitters from the 15U/14U divisions at #Gibbons
Chase Cornier (pictured above) of the Atlanta Celtics 2021 Team came in to today’s game doing what he has done all spring and that's shoot. You could argue that he is that best in his class in the state of Georgia as a shooter. Not bad for an eighth grader playing up in the 15U division. The thing that makes Cornier so scary is the fact that he can shoot it from anywhere on the court. He has zero conscious and a whole lot of confidence. Cornier scored 16 points, hitting five threes against the Georgia Kings. Expect Cornier to give opposing high schools trouble and his name to grasp attention moving forward for the Lilburn, Georgia guard.
NEXT UP: Mcgowens Team SC follows in his brother's footsteps
Upward Stars SE 2019 guard Trey Mcgowens is enjoying an incredible spring in his last ride on the travel circuit. While he’ll be off to bigger and better things next season in Pittsburgh, there’s another Mcgowens ready to take the reign. Insert, Bryce Mcgowens. Bryce, Trey’s little brother, is 6-foot-3 and has pythons for arms. Bryce’s Team SC played the Upward Stars Charlotte and they dominated. Bryce scored 11 points and hit two threes, but moreov,er he showed abilities that will have High and Mid Major coaches all be trying to get him to their school when it’s his time. The younger Mcgowens already holds offers from Mercer and Iona with a load of other schools keeping a close eye.
Trey James, as traditional as they come
Centers that want to be traditional centers is a thing in the past. If you’re not a center who shoots the three you might as well be a dinosaur. However, that’s not the case for Kentucky center Trey James. James, only 15 and standing at 6-foot-10, seemingly loves being a traditional five man. He stays in the paint at all times, doesn’t think about shooting long range, and displays post patients which is also rare within young bigs. For now the five-man has all the tools he needs to succeed at the next level. Playing for Manimal Elite, James absolutely loves to block shots. He has really impressive timing. Mix that with his size and you have a pretty solid rim protector. James scored 12 points in a win for Manimal Elite in the early game but didn’t force a single shot. Maybe even a little too unselfish but his willingness to pass out the post really impressed. James is getting looks from some High and Mid majors. Expect his name to buzz around the Kentucky streets for the next for years.
