Class AAAAAA State Championship: Langston Hughes vs Gainesville

Langston Hughes (26-5) vs Gainesville (24-6)
Class AAAAAA State Championship
McCamish Pavilion at Georgia Tech, 8 p.m.

What a game this should be for the private school championship in Georgia.

This is the game that everyone that follows Georgia high school hoops had hoped would be our state championship game for the AAAAAA classification. These are the two best teams in the classification.

Two of the best players in the classification are in this game with Langston Hughes’s Sanchez Nolley, the state’s leading scorer, and Gainesville’s KJ Buffen. Expect both players to match-up throughout the game.

Langston Hughes has done a good job of developing talent around Nolley. Seniors Tyler Smith and Tyrel Morgan have good size and strength for their respective positions while sophomore Patrick Carter, Jr. should be the school’s next go-to guy for the next two seasons.

But let’s be clear - Nolley is a 30 point per game scorer and the most deadly perimeter threat in the state.

Gainesville has as good of a starting five as any team in the state. Big man Bailey Minor is a nuts and bolts power forward that has been a staple in Gainesville’s lineup for the last three years. The Rosser twins - Jarrell and Jared - are long and athletic and a problem on the wing.

Point guard Kajuan Hale and wing Jabo Bledson are trustworthy seniors. Don’t be surprised if Bledson is Gainesville’s most valuable player in this game.
