15U #Gibbons Friday Night Notebook

HoopSeen #Gibbons started off with a nice slate of Friday night games in the 15U division. Here's what I saw:

In the first game to tip off from Discovery High School, Lakeside Elite vs Game Elite Gold surely did not disappoint. Lakeside guard Bailey Hebel scored 15 of the team’s first 30 points to keep the score close in the first half. Hebel was creative with his shot selection, hitting several threes and using great footwork in the paint. He finished with 17 points. As both teams settled into the flow of the game, Game Elite’s size proved to be the x-factor. Game Elite had the luxury of having 6’7 G/F Corey Walker snag rebounds and push the ball the ball in transition, sometimes even initiating the offense. Dominic Allmond got to the cup at will, finishing at the rim with both hands. Walker and Allmond put up 16 and 12 points respectively. To round out their scoring, Game Elite got 4 threes from Josh Himel on his way to 14 points.

There were a couple of stellar offensive performances in the 7:15pm games. Team South Carolina got 24 points including 5 threes from guard Rayshon Harris. Another aggressive 21 points from Draylon Burton helped Team SC cruise to a 67-46 win over the Atlanta HoopStarz. Burton got to the bucket with ease.

Game Elite-Tree had three players in double figures in their win over SOH Elite Orlando. Andrew Thomas, a 6’5 F made his presence felt both on the boards and on the block, putting up 17 points. Cameron Sheffield, a long, lanky wing added 12 points by slashing his way to the basket. To complete the offensive triple threat attack, Camden Blount scored a smooth 14 points.

Warner Robins All-Stars found themselves in a battle with Team Winston Blue one of the 8:20 games. Jamarcus Thompson who has been on a great run this spring, had 9 first half points to bring the All-Stars to within 3 at the half. Horace Johnson picked up where Thompson left off, adding 10 of his 15 points in the second half. Team Winston lost their lead late and needed a deep 3 from Chance Carter to send the game into OT. Stephon Minor, who finished with 14 points, won the game on a baseline drive and layup as the clock expired. Thompson finished with 16 for Warner Robins.

In the night’s last round of games, the Atlanta Celtics and GA Knights were matched up. The Celtics built a double digit lead despite 13 first half points from Brandon Stroud of the Knights. Celtics SF Chase Ellis put up 12 of his own during the same time span. The Celtics didn't miss much in the second half and extended their lead to twenty quickly. Chase Ellis finished with 18 points, facilitating from all over the floor. Stroud had an incredible performance despite the loss, pouring a total of 26 points. The Celtics won handsomely, 90-66z

One court over, Team Winston White and Orlando Captain Elite were going at it. Jouldan Valdez started off strong hitting three 3s to get the Orlando squad going. The tough PG finished with 15. Michael Eads did a little bit of everything for O.C.E and finished with 16. It seemed like Brooks Johnson of Team Winston couldn't miss from long range. He hit 6 threes on the night. O.C.E clung to a 4 point lead with just under four minutes to play. Turnovers and poor shot selection caused an 8 point swing late. The team from Orlando never recovered. Team Winston finished them off 68-63.
