The Finals: Recapping Friday night at the Georgia Cup

Opening night of The Finals of the Georgia Cup is in the books. Justin Young takes a look at some of the news and notes from inside Suwanee Sports Academy.

  • The 9U and 10U divisions of the Georgia Cup should be an absolute battle this weekend here at The Finals. If Friday night's games were a preview of things to come, we should have a great couple of days ahead.
  • The Dekalb Knights and Synergy Select have both won Georgia Cup circuit stops at the 10U level this season and both opened things up in impressive fashion.
  • Jamar Graham scored 11 while Josh Hales put in nine points. Jacob Tillman had 8 in the Synergy ATL 50-11 win over EOTO.  A court over, the Dekalb Knights won 48-11 over the Atlanta Nets. Darrien Joseph and Tyler Jewell both scored 10 points in the win for the Dekalb Knights.
  • A game later, TNBC worked hard for a a 37-35 win over Smooth Improvement Kings. Dennis Scott had 13 points to pace TNBC while Nick Oliver added 10. Jack Collins had 13 for the Smooth Improvement Kings.  Trajen
  • Greco scored 16 points for All In Elite in a win Hoops360 Blackwell in the 10U division. Greco shot the ball very well.
  • The Gwinnett Hawks have been the top team all season long in 9U and continued their success on Friday night. The team is now 10-1 on the circuit with a win over the Atlanta Nets.
  • Deion Colzie scored 27 points, the highest point total at The Finals of the Georgia Cup on Friday night, in a Georgia Excel win over Hoops360 Blackwell.
  • Arusha Hunter and Mekhail Bethea combined for 49 points for Dacula in a win over the Atlanta Warriors. The Dacula backcourt is reloading and Hunter and Bethea made it look easy on Friday night. Not to be outdone, the Warriors had a productive night from Andrew Melms (14 points), Musa Thompson (14 points), Damon Stoudamire (15 points) and BJ Millard (15 points).
  • The Georgia Kings won on Friday night thanks to the play of big man Joseph McKay, who scored 14 points while Ian Matthews 11 points and Marquise Brundage scored 10 points.
