Huge weekend ahead with ATL EYBL stop
The final stop of the 2016 Nike Elite Youth Basketball League comes to Suwanee Sports Academy this Memorial Day weekend and HoopSeen.com will have you covered for the loaded event.
Sixty-eight of our top 100 players play on the EYBL circuit and the majority of those players will be on hand.
The nation’s top prospect in the class of 2017 and 2018 will be on hand. The class of 2019 is still yet to be determined but several candidates for the top overall spot in that class will be in the event, too.
This is a loaded weekend. Absolutely loaded.
CLASH OF THE TITANS
The biggest match-up of all should be our No. 1 player in the nation - Wendell Carter - against our No. 2 player in the nation - DeAndre Ayton. It doesn’t get much better than that. These No. 1 vs No. 2 match-ups don’t happen very often in a team setting anymore. More times than not, the pairings happen at invite-only player camps. We’ll have it happening on court 2 at SSA at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Corey Evans and I will have in-depth coverage from the game.
This isn’t the first time we’ve had such a heavyweight battle take place at SSA. Last year at the Under Armour Finals, Ayton locked horns with Josh Jackson. It was a fun battle to watch take place.
For Carter, he’ll have his hands full. The Ayton game will start the weekend. Then he’ll play his in-state rival Ikey Obiagu and his former team in the Georgia Stars.
Keep this in mind, too… Mohamed Bamba could very well be the top overall player in the class of 2017 but reports are he will not play in Atlanta for the PSA Cardinals.
RANKINGS UP FOR GRABS
With so many nationally ranked players on display this weekend, our full staff will be watching closely. The class of 2017 is very good at the top and guys like Michael Porter, Jr., Hamidou Diallo, Kevin Knox, Jarred Vanderbilt, Obiagu, John Petty, Billy Preston, Troy Brown, Brandon McCoy, Trae Young, Nick Richards and PJ Washington will also be on hand.
We will release our updated rankings for the class of 2017 - nationally and selected states - after the event. Look for those to drop right around the first of June and before we head to Charlottesville for the NBPA Top 100 camp.
PLAYING FOR THE PEACH JAM
With this being the final regular season stop of the Nike EYBL, teams will be playing for a bid to the Nike Peach Jam. The top six teams in each division will earn a bid to the July finale. There are a host of teams that are playing for those coveted spots. That should make for a great set of games.
D1Circuit covers the EYBL circuit and did a great job of forecasting the top games to watch in Atlanta this weekend. Please refer to their list for the must-see match-ups of the ATL stop.
PREVIEWING FOR THE BEST OF THE SOUTH
Our annual Best of the South tournament is always loaded and our 2016 event will be our most talented one yet. The EYBL ATL stop will give us a chance to preview some of the teams that will be attending the BOTS. Be sure to lock in your program - sponsored or not - today. We can’t wait to see you in July!
