Georgia Cup III Championships: Elementary School

11U Championship: D-Elite 44, Georgia Kings 25

D-Elite jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind a suffocating press.  The Georgia Kings found their footing behind the good interior play of Kelton Smith.  At half D-Elite had an 18-13 lead in an up and down game.  But it was the play of Lamaryion Jordan that ultimately made the difference.  The lanky guard scored16 points points as D-Elite took home this week’s edition of the Georgia Cup with a 44-25 victory over the .   Kelton Smith led all Kings scorers with 6 points. also. - Mike Eddy 

10U Championship: Dekalb Knights 50, EOTO 20 

The Dekalb Knights used great fundamentals, balance and overall basketball IQ to earn their Georgia Cup III championship trophy on Sunday.

The Knights beat EOTO 50-20 and did so in impressive fashion. Michael Matthews scored 17 points while Darrian Joseph added 15 en route to the title. 

For a younger team in the field, the Knights showed they are as skilled as any team in this weekend’s loaded Georgia Cup. - Justin Young

9U Championship: Huntsville Flight 37, Atlanta Celtics 34

After trailing as many as 9 points in the 2nd half the Huntsville Flight took the lead for the first time in the game with just under 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and held on for the championship 37-34 in the Georgia Cup III championship game.   The Celtics lead the entire game until the end but the Flight’s pressure forced a lot of turnovers at the end of the game and the Flight kids hit some big shots when they needed them including 2 free throws by Fredrick Derrick to ice the game at the end.

The Flight were led in scoring by Myles Hammonds who ended the game with 14 points and Fredrick Derrick added 8 points.  The Celtics' Asani Spivey was great all weekend and the championship game was no different. He ended up with 18 points and Simmons added 9 points for the Celtics. - Mike Eddy
