Georgia Cup II 10U-13U Championship Recaps

10U Georgia Cup Championship: Louisiana Heat Elite 55, Atlanta Select/Roswell Bombers 36

The Heat Elite program out of Louisiana has a bright future at multiple age groups.  Its 10U squad had a great weekend in Atlanta and won convincingly against a Roswell Bombers squad who has had a lot of success in Georgia Cups over the past two years.    The Heat Elite set the tone for the championship game right from the beginning.  Their 2-2-1 full court press forced lots of turnovers and the Heat were great turning those turnovers into easy buckets in transition.

The Heat Elite has several good perimeter weapons and were paced all weekend by point guard Tony Lewis. Tyson Pittman was terrific all weekend for the Roswell Bombers, but the Heat Elite came at the dynamic point guard in waves.  By halftime the Heat Elite led 39-20 and maintained a comfortable lead for the rest of the game.

11U Georgia Cup Championship: Atlanta Nets 51, EOTO 40

This game was a rematch of the first Georgia Cup championship game.  In that contest 2 weeks ago the Nets won by 1 point.  This one was another heated contest between the two talented young squads.

The Atlanta Nets jumped out to a lead behind an effective full court press, leading by 13 at half.  EOTO began to find a little rhythm against the press in the 4th quarter but couldn’t overcome the deficit.  Jai’Que Hart set the pace for the Nets offensively with 11 points.  Christopher Hickman was very active on the offensive glass and extended numerous possessions with good hustle. He ended the game with 7 points. EOTO had a balanced attack led by Jackson with 11 points, Kidd with 10 points and Jenkins with 9 points.

12U Georgia Cup Championship: Ga Stars 47, Maegahoops 31

The Georgia Stars trailed by 3 points at half but were able to utilize their superior size to break away from Meagahoops in the 3rd quarter and maintain that lead in the 4th quarter.  Inside the paint Mariano Moment was a problem for Maegahoops the entire game.  Moment grabbed boards, contested shots and ended with a game high 13 points.  Xavier Wright was good on the ball and in the open court.  He added 12 ponts.  Maegahoops’s Alexander Diggs was one of the top performers in the 12U age group this weekend. The Stars did a great job of limiting his looks in the 2nd half.

13U Georgia Cup Championship: Louisiana Heat Elite 59, Georgia Coastal Ballers 56

With 2 minutes to play in regulation, it appeared Georgia Coastal Ballers had a championship in hand.   They had a comfortable lead and had led as much as double digits late in the 4th quarter.  Louisiana Heat never game up though.  They tied the game late in regulation and the Ballers failed to convert a last opportunity. Heat Elite used their momentum to pull away early in overtime and eventually hold on for a 3 point win.

Heat Elite point guard Gage Larvadain was perhaps the best ball-handler and passer we saw all weekend.  At the other guard spots Jayden scored 19 points and Raeland Johnson added 10 points in the Heat Elite’s win.

Jaeden Marshal led the Coastal Ballers with 26 points.  His athleticism in transition made him difficult to guard all weekend.  He showed a range of skills hitting 4 three pointers in the championship.  Jalen Rouse did a nice job at the point as well and scored 10 points in the championship game.
