#ATLJAM:Tennessee Tigers bring home 17U

Defense was the story as the Tennessee Tigers stifled Douglas Brothers Elite, holding them to just three made field goals in the first half. Douglas Brothers’ first field goal didn’t come till the 7:55 mark of the first half when Trejan Davis found the bottom of the net.

Even with their shooting woes, Douglas Brothers trailed by only three at 13-10, but another five-plus minute drought would hit as they didn’t grab a second hoop until 2:16 remained, by then they trailed 28-13 and entered the half down 33-16.

Caleb Hodnett caught fire in the first half and outscored Douglas Brothers, canning five threes en route to a 20-point first half. A 6-6 guard, Hodnett finished the night with a game-high 31 points, capped with a one-handed flush. Hodnett explained that it is his first time playing AAU this year.

“I came from a really small private school and I never was really pressed to play AAU until I got to the end of my senior year.”

The unsigned guard said he couldn’t have envisioned a better championship performance and hopes his recruitment will pick up after his six three-pointer performance.

Garrett Sanderson added six points, five rebounds and five assists in the win. Tariq Jenkins carried Douglas Brothers Elite who was without lead guard Isaiah Hart due to injury. Jenkins, a senior from Jonesboro, contributed 16 points and three steals.
