Georgia Cup I championship recaps: 14U-12U

TEAM CARROLL CLOSES GREAT WEEKEND OUT STRONG

Team Carroll headed back to Alabama with the championship trophy in the first edition of the 2016 Georgia Cup after beating at scrappy and talented Team Rival 56-51 in the finals of the 14U Orange bracket. Team Rival trailed by as much as 19 points late in the 3rd quarter, but came back to tie the game early in the fourth quarter. The game remained tight down to the end and Team Carroll, led by point guard Trey Bonham, hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win and cap an undefeated weekend.

Team Carroll was led by Bonham, with 19 points. Willie Screws had 12 points and Mason Cooper had 13 points for Team Carroll. Braylen Howard led a balanced Team Rival attack with 12 points. Freddy Wood added 11 points and Justin Coleman 10 points.

GEORGIA SPURS PONY UP TO 14U BLACK CHAMPIONSHIP

With four players in double digits in scoring, the ATL Assault took care of business for the 14U Black championship on Sunday.

Derrick Brown and Corey Hines each scored 15 points in the title game. Kamahl Grant pumped in 14 while Jamahl Grant added 10 in the championship.

Arched Crepsac led the Georgia Spurs with 22 points in the championship game.

COASTAL CREW RACKS UP 13U TITLE

In a back-and-forth battle for the 13U championship at the Georgia Cup I, the Coastal Crew Rebels held off a fourth quarter comeback from Georgia Xclusive to hold on for a 46-45 win.

It was a wild ride to title town. But the Rebels won out.

Anthony Bowen led the way with 13 points while big man Ja’heim Hudson scored eight and controlled the glass. Aziyah Wescott added eight while Kington Tuiaana-Morris scored seven.

Madison Durr led the way with 13 for the Exclusive while Jacquez Smith added 11 and Tommy Brown scored 10.

TRIPLE DOUBLE TAKES HOME 12U

The East Point Runnin' Rebels took on Triple Double for the 12U championship in the first session of the Georgia Cup. Neither program is a stranger to the Cup or Suwanee Sports Academy.

On this day, Triple Double had the upper hand. Oscar Lynch provided the first half scoring and got his team out to a big first half lead. Triple Double, however, would have to survive a late surge by the Rebels, who were lead by Kobe Davis. They did that on the back of point guard Ethan Underwood, who was fantastic all weekend, to win the game 45-38 to take home the trophy.

TNBC CLAIMS 12U ORANGE CHAMPIONSHIP

Kenny Orr scored 19 points as TNBC won the 12U Orange championship of the first Georgia Cup of the season in a 55-38 win over Maegahoops. TNBC, a staple of balanced play on both sides of the ball, had 11 points from Buck Hall.

Alexander Diggs pumped in 14 while Alexander Newberry scored 13 for Maegahoops.
