Elite Preview Team 1 Evals
The Georgia Elite Preview was jam-packed with talent and our staff looks back on each player at the invite-only camp. Here are the player breakdowns from Team 1.
MOHAMMED ABDULSALEM, C, GREENFOREST, 2018: The most noticeable change with the Greenforest big man was his conditioning. He was able to get up and down the floor quicker and with ease, which is a huge step forward for him. His developed skill set on the block was never in doubt. He has great hands, good footwork down low, and can finish with efficiency in the paint and around the rim. With the development of his conditioning, it is scary how good Abdulsalem could be. - Carter Wilson
DEMIERRE BLACK, CG, HILLGROVE, 2017- Black showed down the stretch of the season that he could be one of the better scoring guards in Atlanta. However, he still came into the Elite Preview a relative unknown to some. He made his impression with his ability to handle the ball and score it from the perimeter. He often played the lead guard on this team that was filled with point guards, and he excelled in getting his teammates involved as well. Him and Davion Mitchell made a great backcourt combo at the Preview. - Carter Wilson
GABE BRYANT, PF, DAWSON COUNTY, 2018: It took a broken nose to slow down the big man at camp. That was unfortunate, no doubt, but the big fella was not going to have the brakes put on him. He came to play and was one of the best players in the college coaching drill work and stations. Bryant has a chance to carve out a space as one of the best big men in the Southeast this travel season. He has the skillset to open some eyes and generale legitimate interest from a wide range of programs. Bryant has great hands and and a nice array of post moves. He can score with the midrange shot and uses his footwork well on both sides of the ball. - Justin Young
NOAH GURLEY, SF, FAYETTE COUNTY, 2017: Every year at the Elite Preview there is a guy that you watch closely and know that a player is about to emerge out of his long and unique basketball frame. This year’s sleeper is Gurley. The 6-foot-7 forward was one of the most improved players in Georgia this past season and earned his spot at our invite-only camp. Gurley is a slasher that finished at the rim with both hands. He has good athleticism and quick off the floor. Gurley found the open man with accuracy. He’s at his best when he’s attacking the midrange on offense. With his length, Gurley is a good perimeter defender and could improve as a rebounder. - Justin Young
ISAIAH HART, PG, WHITEFIELD ACADEMY, 2017:- A contributor at Whitefield since his freshman year, Hart has often been labeled at “too small”. After Elite Preview, some of his labels could include “tough”, “leader”, and “scorer”. Hart excelled in ball screen situations, making great reads: scoring when he needed to and finding teammates when the situation called for it. He also excels on the other end of the floor, defending very physically, as we should expect from any Whitefield prospect. LM’s should be all over this one. - Carter Wilson
TYSON JACKSON, PF, WHITEFIELD, 2018: The 6-foot-7 forward rebounded well with both hands and shined as a long defender in the paint. He caused deflections and changed shots. Offensively, he also finished well with both hands around the cup. When we look ahead at the 2018 class as a whole, Jackson could be one of the spring risers in the state of Georgia this spring. - Justin Young
DAVION MITCHELL, PG, LIBERTY COUNTY, 2017: There wasn’t a better player in the gym on Saturday at the Elite Preview than the state champ from Southeast Georgia. Mitchell was the hardest player to guard. Read more about his epic performance HERE. - Justin Young
CHAPIN RIERSON, SF, CALHOUN, 2017: One of the most competitive guys in the camp, the 6-foot-5 forward rebounded out of his area and attacked well with both hands right to the rim. He’s one of the best passers in the 2017 class in Georgia. - Justin Young
TWORN SEALS, PF/SF, MILLER GROVE, 2019: The 6-foot-5 rookie defended the post well and moved his feet well on the perimeter. He’s crafty around the rim and finished in the paint. He graded out well for hustle plays and accepted the coaching from coaches. - Justin Young |
