Southeast Top 100 Camp Notes

Courts 1-3 of Suwanee Sports Academy were jumping with some of the top high school girls prospects from not only Georgia, but all over the Southeast & country. Hoops Hidden Gems does an incredible job with this camp and was a great opportunity to check out some of the top talent in Girls Basketball as we lead up to our HoopSeenW camp on October 5th.

Here are some of the standouts from today's camp:

2028 Sutton Villa - Pleasant Grove (UT)

The #1 Center in the USA for 2028, 6'6" Sutton Villa from Provo, Utah came into Suwanee Sports Academy & showed off why she currently holds that title. She currently holds offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Utah, BYU, Clemson, amongst many other high-major programs. Aside from her sheer height, Sutton looked very comfortable in parts of the game you would not expect her to at her age. She's capable of scoring from the outside when left open but really thrives on the inside over her left shoulder. Defensively, she's able to make up for foot-speed with her wingspan & is an elite rim protector already at this point in her development. As she grows older, I look for her to improve her physicality on the glass & overall athleticism. Elite prospect to follow that I'm sure we'll be seeing on television in the near future.

2027 Jayla Forbes - Montverde Academy (FL)

The 6'6" 5-Star Center out of Montverde Academy took today as a business trip at the Hoops Hidden Gems Top 100. Loved the way Jayla handled her business and her level of preparation for each game and rep. Jayla is an incredibly vocal player and became an automatic leader with her squad showing why she holds offers from over 35 High Major programs. I was impressed by her soft touch around the rim and her ability to finish through contact. In a matchup against 6'6" Sutton Villa, she used her physicality to grab every loose rebound and made it a point to find her matchup & box out every possession. She has great hands and was able to catch every entry pass regardless of it being a good pass or not. On the defensive end, Jayla is a presence in the paint and limits what opposing offenses can do at the rim. One of the top talents not only at the camp, but from across the country.

2027 Journey Bryant - Midtown (GA)

I had been hearing rumbles of a new transfer at Midtown High School that was making waves in workouts but got the chance to see her first-hand today at camp. With that being said, I AM SOLD. Journey outplayed my expectations and left me thinking she was the best guard on the court with tons of ESPN Top 100 talent around. She can shoot the ball at an extremely high level & shoots it with supreme confidence. If she sees a defender she can out-muscle, she'll bully her into the paint to score at the rim. She has a good handle but I'd like to see her make the easy play more often opposed to trying to force opportunities. With that being said, if I was scoring at the clip she was - I'd probably force some too. Defensively, she moves her feet well and is aggressive - active hands that force deflections. She received her first D1 offer from Jackson State last week & after seeing her today I can almost guarantee more will be on the way.

2028 Paityn Dean - Lafayette Christian Academy (LA)

Paityn is another high-level prospect with offers from LA mid-majors New Orleans, Nicholls State, & McNeese as well as an offer from our in-state Mercer Bears. The first thing you'll notice about Paityn on the court is that she's in constant attack mode. At no time does she take a break on the court, loved her constant motor & energy both on the offensive and defensive side. She scores well at the rim through contact and had multiple And-1's throughout the camp. She gets to her spots off a ball screen easy and converts at a high percentage. One play in particular that comes to mind is when her big came and set a UCLA back screen where she got downhill quick in one-dribble, stopped on a dime & drilled a deep 3 with her defender still trying get back for a closeout. Her change of pace is great & I'll be excited to track this young guard's growth.

2029 Niya Daniels - Commerce (GA)

One of the youngest players that caught my eye today is Niya Daniels out of North Georgia at Commerce High. Good frame, physical defender, loves contact. Runs the floor well and scored multiple times as a rim runner. Able to finish through contact. Good decision maker that can play inside or out based off of personnel. Takes care of the ball and kept finding open teammates. Good basketball player that is probably a tweener right now, her position will become apparent as time and her development go on. Excited to track her progress this upcoming Freshman season and the player she becomes at Commerce.

2027 Sophia Louis-Pierre - Galloway (GA)

I only got a limited look at Sophia due to an injury in the 2nd quarter that we sure hope isn't serious. But before then? She was cooking. In a little less than 2 quarters, she showed that she was one of the best players in the camp. Everything she did was off of 2 feet and had great balance on every drive. She showed that she was capable of getting to the rim at will but also has a great looking outside shot that she hit with confidence early in the game I saw. Will make it a point to check on her progress at Galloway after a limited look at her today.

2027 Mylie Butler - Albertville (AL)

Liked what I saw out of Butler today from the PG spot. Defensively is where she stood out initially. She moves her feet extremely well and is a good defender. While commanding the offense, she makes good decisions as a Point Guard. Handles pressure well & doesn't allow the defense to speed her up. She successfully found her posts in the paint on multiple occasions and made great entry passes to put them in a position to be successful. I'd view her as a scholarship-level player that Gulf South, Peach Belt, & Conference of Carolina schools should be targeting, especially with her 4.0 GPA.

2028 Madyson Parker - Slidell (LA)

Capable young guard with a great feel for the game. Can keep the ball on a string and has a skillset that can carry her as she grows older into her basketball career. For sure a player that showed tools at this stage of her development that standout next to her peers. I'd like to see her more aggressive and impactful on both ends of the ball but showed her ability.
