Jason Wellborn walked away from Our Fall Preview with MVP honors after putting together one of the most impressive performances of the entire event. His breakout moment came with a 47-point showing that had every coach in the gym buzzing, and he followed it up with another 40-point performance in the semifinal game. Those back-to-back scoring outbursts showcased not just his ability to fill it up, but also his aggressiveness to just takeover on the court.
Wellborn is a shifty and athletic guard who plays with a natural IT factor. He can break down defenses with his creativity, make shots at all three levels, and stay active on the defensive end by applying pressure and disrupting plays. His scoring presence makes him a true difference-maker, capable of swinging momentum in his team’s favor.
From a projection standpoint, Wellborn has the game of a MM/LM Division I guard and would be a steal for a Division II program. His mix of offensive firepower, defensive activity, and overall impact on winning makes him a player with serious upside at the next level.
