HoopSeen Fall League Notes (Week 2)

HoopSeen’s fall league Week 2 had the gym on fire with some of the best teams and players across the state featured. Here are the players who stuck out most in Week 2:

Jordan Hayes

Jordan Hayes, Cherokee Bluff

Hayes’ best asset is his body. He commands the court with what seems to be a college ready build, putting helpless defenders on his hip on en route to the basket.  Maturity and IQ are areas of strength for the 2026 guard as well. Hayes does lack vertical athleticism, I wouldn’t count on him playing above the rim in close quarters, but his laterally quickness and awareness on the court make up for it.

Cooper Glover

Cooper Glover, Cherokee Bluff

Glover is a very exciting player to watch. From warmups to the final buzzer, he’s just a kid you cannot take your eyes off. He’s a left handed, lanky athlete, with an explosive jump. He has a smooth stroke from the perimeter and a serviceable handle. His scoring ability sticks out most, but I was impressed with his vision. Glover’s height allows him to see over defenders in transition and zip passes to open shooters. His accuracy does need work, but nonetheless the vision is there. He does need to work on his handle in close quarters, but for now good coaching allows him to be a threat within the offense. Glover’s ceiling is high and I can’t wait to see what he does this upcoming winter.

Gavin Lesch

Gavin Lesch, East Forsyth

East Forsyth has a team full of quick trigger shooters. Lesch is one of them certainly. He operates mostly corner to corner, in catch and shoot situations scorching nets each time he touches the floor. However, what separates Lesch is ability to also play in the mid range. He so comfortable off the 1 to 2 dribble pull up jumper. This allows the floor to open up for the rest of his sharpshooting teammates.

Reece Styles

Reece Styles, East Forsyth

Coming off the bench for East, Styles made an immediate impact. He used his shooting touch to join in on the 3 point action with his team. But also, his wide body was a problem for the opponent. Stumbling and bumbling toward the rim, Styles’ feathery touch equalizes his bull like movement. He finishes high off the glass above every defender is his way. Going forward, it’s best the dual sport athlete works on his foot quickness. Whether he chooses baseball or basketball in the future is a question, but without a doubt, Reece Styles is talented and a name to watch this upcoming winter.

Carter King

Carter King, Mt Pisgah

King is a small guard that runs the backcourt for Mt Pisgah. He operates with the demeanor of an assassin: quiet but explosive, stealthy, smart. He is very quick from end to end and can get in the lane whenever he wants. The sophomore isn’t playing above anyone’s rim but he does explode to bucket with ease. He should work on adding a few more dribble moves to his repertoire to open more options for him and others, but overall the next 3 seasons for King should be a sight to see.

Marco Bucero

 Marco Bucero, Mt Pisgah

The most impressive player I saw tonight was Marco. He did not wow me with his athleticism. Nor was he the flashiest. However, his feel for the game and potential as a 13 year old are utterly insane. The 6’5 wing/forward can do it all. From rebounding strong on the glass, throwing no look passes at the drop of a dime, and scoring inside and out. He is the truth. The only weakness I witnessed  was he tends to dribble with his head down. But with so much time to develop and grow, this kid will be one of Georgia’s elite in no time.

KJ White

Kevin White, Gainesville

Kevin White is downright explosive. On a court filled with 5-star and 4-star athletes, White sticks out in the best of ways. Any court he steps into, White would be hard pressed to find anyone faster than him. Each time he’s seen speeding in and out of defenders in transition, you can guarantee the next action you will see will be at the rim. White is not afraid to jump with the biggest of defenders. He jumps straight into their chest many times attempting to dunk on them. He can shoot from the outside, and he plays with hunger. All in all he doesn’t have many weaknesses, in fact I believe he is a college point guard today! What level is yet to be seen, but make no mistake… Kevin White is the truth.

Charlie Gersmehl

Charlie Gersmehl, Gainesville

No surprise, Gersmehl does exactly what’s expected of him. He’s built a reputation as a stretch big with good touch. He operates with consistency. The Belmont commit has a simple game and he won’t be sped up. I left the gym more impressed with his defensive ability and potential however. Specifically, in one possession he guard 3 different players, 2 of which were guards. Gersmehl switches onto each and slides his feet with a quickness that did not allow for any driving lanes. This surprised me. I am eager to see how Gersmehl continues to develop over the next few months.

MJ Curry

MJ Curry, Grayson

There’s so much one could say about the game of MJ Curry. He’s versatile, does it all, and at top speed as well. The junior is nothing short of elite. On the offensive end, he curls off screens knocking mid range jumpers in a Rip Hamilton like fashion. He stretches his shooting out to the 3 point line, and at the rim… well not many want to see MJ there. He’s the complete package for a shooting guard. His biggest strength in my opinion is on the defensive end. Curry cause havoc each play. He dives on the ground, harasses the opponent. His long, lanky arms allow for steals and blocks alike. Defense for Curry is more like offense, as he controls the court on this end. His motor is unmatched and he does it all with a smile. Wherever this kids lands collegiately won’t surprise me. But the coming months are what’s most important, and I am excited to see if Curry can take the next step to be the best player in the state.
