HoopSeen 2022 Wrapped: The 2025 guy

The calendar year of 2022 is nearly in the books and we are looking back on the 12 full months of hoop that we've seen at HoopSeen, within the HoopSeen Association and beyond. So, we asked Josh Tec and Justin Young some questions.

There were plenty of 2025 stars that played on the HoopSeen stage in 2022. Jacob Wilkins was someone we got to see multiple times, and his performances set the table for the rise we’re seeing now.

Whether it was when TSF 2025 was dominant in the 17U division of the Georgia Cup or when they came through the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, Jacob Wilkins was a player our staff left raving about. The 6-foot-8 wing showed a well-rounded skill set and an impressive motor.

What's next for him in 2023? This will be a storyline that we will be monitoring closely.

In-person viral moments don’t happen very often anymore in the realm of youth basketball so when they do happen, it is a pretty cool thing to be a part of. At the 2022 Best of the South the conversation surrounding Spencer Ahrens of Monarchs Elite was that moment this season.

“Have you seen this 15U team from Canada play,” was the question that raced through our staff text thread. Everyone with a HoopSeen shirt and a Twitter account had to make their way to wherever the squad from Canada was to see the skilled 6-foot-9 forward from Ontario.

Ahrens was hooping, man. Just hooping. His presence was felt across the board and we watched a young man play his way into the national conversation in the class of 2025.

The same experience happened a couple of weeks later at the Grassroots Summer Finale in Virginia Beach. Ahrens was a top performer and solidified himself as one of the premier young prospects in his class.
