Post-Summer Class of 2024 top 100 HoopSeen Rankings
With a little bit of time away from the gym to reflect on all of what we’ve seen this summer, the HoopSeen team decided it was time for a rankings update! After scouring notes, watching film, rewatching film, and obsessing over minutiae, we’ve expanded our 2024 rankings out to 100. Let’s dive into the details.

Where is the talent from?
Upon looking over the rankings, one state that stands out as particularly deep is North Carolina. The Tar Heel State has 12 players in our top 100. As the resident expert, Justin Byerly has some thoughts about what’s shaping up to be as strong of a class as the state has had in recent memory.
“I have been covering North Carolina hoops for over a decade. This 2024 class is as good as it gets. From the PG position to the Center position, this class has it all. Granted, we have some guys transfer in that have landed in our top 100 but from the top to the bottom, there are legitimately 12 guys that will make the top 100. That is 12%. That is a high number for one class, if memory serves me correctly this is as high of a number that we have had in the past decade. The 2016 class had three lottery picks and a few that fell afterward. This 2024 class is going to, at least on paper, surpass those numbers.” - Justin Byerly.
Staff favorites
There could be a time in which Jackson finds himself atop the 2024 rankings. While helping lead USA Basketball to a FIBA U17 championship, Jackson proved to be one of the truly elite prospects in the country. He’s a guard with plenty of burst and athleticism, he hunts rebounds well from the perimeter, and he showed plenty from beyond the arc as well. The bluest of bloods have offered Jackson to this point, so I’d imagine that we’ll be seeing Jackson play for one of college basketball’s elites if he elects to go that route.
Back in 2020 when I first saw Passmore as a freshman, I knew he was the best prospect at that age that I had seen in WNC in 20 years. The closest prospect that I remember at his level was former NBA player and UNC standout Rashad McCants. At the same stage of their careers, Passmore is more athletic and more explosive. His one knock, his shooting has been erased. He can now knock down shots from the outside consistently and can change the game with his drives to the basket that usually ends up being a viral video. Passmore has now transferred to national power Combine Academy and will play more of a national schedule. He had a strong travel season with Garner Road on the Adidas circuit and he picked up high-major after high-major offers. His athleticism is already at the highest level and once he figures it all out, he could be a guy that is hearing his name on draft night. - Justin Byerly
Notable risers
You could make an argument that Dedan Thomas was one of the five best performers from the loaded Section 7 team camp in Arizona back in June. Thomas plays with such control and calmness that his team’s output levels up. A smaller guard, Thomas uses his smarts to beat fellow point guards at their game. He knows what to do and how to do it.
Reid has shown that he has all the potential in the world for quite some time now. The 6-foot-6 wing out of Grovetown (GA) HS vaulted from being a high-upside guy who locals to Georgia love to a national name after a productive summer with TSF and Grovetown. There aren’t many boxes that he doesn’t check. He’s tough and can play as a small-ball big if needed. Where he impressed most was in his ability to be a secondary playmaker. Reid has elite vision and is an exceptional passer for his size. Throughout the summer, he amassed offers from several SEC programs as well as teams like Cincinnati and Indiana.
Atak checks in at 57. He’s probably going to be ranked higher on HoopSeen now than any other national ranking list. We believe in what he can become because we love how much he’s done in the now. Atak is one of the best high-ceiling guys there is in the class of 2024 that we’ve seen and think he could be one of the best risers during the next 12 months. Keep a close eye on his junior season the Lone Star State.
Potential risers within the top 100
When we reevaluate things during the next update, who could see themselves in a higher position than they are now?
The first guy is clear. Ian Jackson doesn’t have a lot of moving up to do, but he could find himself in the No. 1 spot sooner than later. He was tremendous with USA Basketball over the summer, and he could ride that momentum to the pinnacle of the class with a good fall and start to the high school season.
Sticking with a member of the USA Basketball U17 squad, David Castillo was another name that took off while representing the country in Spain. He currently sits at No. 28, but with his poise as the head of the snake and his proficiency as a shooter, he should see a boost if he keeps playing as well as he has of late. While there's some stiff competition at the position, if, at some point, we're having the debate whether Castillo is the best point guard in the class, I won't be surprised.
Luke Bamgboye should be discussed as a potential riser. He has as much upside as anyone in the class. At a lean 6-foot-10, Bamgboye has the frame of a player with plenty of development left in the tank. He blends his fluid movements and athleticism with good hands and touch. On both ends of the floor, the big fella has all the makings of a player on the rise. We have him at No. 61 right now, but he could very well be a top 50 guy in short order.
