Christian Thompson Selects Birmingham Southern
Christian Thompson is a 6-foot-7 forward from Homewood, Alabama, and made a huge impact on the HoopSeen Circuit during the summer. Thompson is a high elite big who knows his way around the post and top perimeter.
Thompson is the next big to take himself off the board as he commits to Birmingham Southern.
He was asked what led to his decision.
“School is very important to me, and Birmingham Southern is a great school; along with that, they also have an excellent basketball program,” he said. “They are close to home, which helps, and I've had a connection with the coaches for a long time.”
With the rise of the Transfer Portal, many opportunities for the average high school baller are closing more every day when someone sits on an offer.
Thompson stated that when he committed, it was like a feeling of relief that he finally knew where he would go next year, and it really took a little bit of a load off.
One key piece of advice that players will generally hear is “Pick a school that is great for you.” Thompson did precisely that and deemed that his relationship with the coaching staff played a major part in his choice.
“My relationship with the coaches is pretty good,” he said. “Coach Graves’s son is the manager at Homewood, so I've been able to get to know him and his family on a personal level.”
Thompson provides everything out of a player that coaches ask for; he runs the floor extremely well and has great hustle going after rebounds. At this year’s Alabama Preview Camp, Thompson left quite an impression on HoopSeen’s Georgia writer Josh Tec.
“When walking away from the camp, one of the guys that made the biggest impression on me was Christian Thompson. His size and length were what made me write his name in my notebook, but his versatility and upside are what I’ll take away the most.”
Thompson expressed that he believes he has a lot to bring to the Birmingham Southern program.
Initially, I think I can contribute an inside presence on the defensive end along with some inside size and scoring,” he said. “But on the attitude side of things, the mentality is always to keep fighting. I think that was one of the reasons I was recruited this summer.”
