Schools are coming by the dozen for 2024 guard Cooper Haynes
It’s been a busy few weeks just outside the city of Memphis at Briarcrest High School (TN), as college coaches have been filing in to see the loaded roster the Saints boast this year.
One of those talented players is junior guard Cooper Haynes, who has attracted a variety of coaches from an assortment of levels. The 6-foot-3 combo guard has made his name as a sniper from long range, but he also has a high basketball IQ to go along with his crafty play off the bounce. Haynes’ game translates well to the next level and his recruitment proves it.
Belmont, Jacksonville, Memphis, and Missouri have extended early offers to Haynes, but there are dozens of other schools beating down his door.
“Tennessee, Loyola-Chicago, Louisville, Georgetown, Liberty, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Jacksonville State, Arkansas State, Columbia, Appalachian State, SMU, and Radford are some of the other programs showing interest in me. A lot of those schools have come to see us at school,” Haynes reported to HoopSeen.com.
Haynes is coming off a weekend unofficial visit to Ole Miss, where he got a chance to see the football team take down Kentucky in dramatic fashion. He had a chance to spend some quality time with Kermit Davis and the basketball team, too.
“This was my third unofficial visit to campus. The coaches have been telling me since the 7th grade that they think I fit their team and the way they play. They’ve expressed how they would love to coach a shooter like me that will also get down on defense and give maximum effort.”
Belmont is another program that has made it a point to prioritize Haynes. The Bruins have been in to see him already this fall and they have also hosted him for an unofficial visit.
“The coaches at Belmont are great. They have told me that I would play a huge role for their team. I like the campus and it’s close to home.”
While it is still early and premature to handicap any favorites in his recruitment, Haynes does have an idea of what he will ultimately be looking for in a college home.
“I’m looking for somewhere where I fit in and can make an impact on and off the floor,” he explained. “I want coaches that will push me to new limits and expect a lot from me. I’d love a school with a great support system and environment at the games, too. The atmosphere and crowd at games is what makes it so fun.”
Expect to hear a ton from Haynes and the Saints during the high school season. With an extremely talented roster, Briarcrest should be one of the best teams in the Memphis area while also being a top-tier team in the Southeast.
