2023 Best of the South: 16U Standouts II
ATLANTA, GA - The 16U division at Best of the South never disappoints. Time and time again, this is where stories start to develop in a significant way. It’s also a grander stage for already-known HoopSeen favorites to add to their resumes.

Wellington Wolves have next-level players throughout their program, and one of the need-to-know guys in their 16U group is Dakota Izard. An athletic guard, Izard can often be found hanging from a rim, and he’s an exceptional rebounder from the perimeter. Izard can get hot from deep and consistently drops 20-point games. For coaches looking to get an early look at the 2025 class, Izard is a name that looks like he’ll be in demand next year. - Josh Tec
This TNBA South team has had so much success this year, and they kept that going with an undefeated weekend at Best of the South. 2025 G Alex Springs is always in the middle of things for this team. He has a nose for the ball and for making plays. He’s a steady scorer, an active defender, a tremendous passer, and a positional rebounder. Springs is a two-way guy who plays hard and leaves his finger prints all over games. When a player can stack great weekends against different teams, that’s when their value can truly be seen and Springs has been nothing but consistent this year. - Josh Tec
One of the prevailing themes of the weekend when talking to college coaches was the emphasis on impacting games outside of scoring, having a secondary trait that can win ball games. When you look at the 16U division, TNBA South Flanders went 5-1 partially because they have a guy in De Los Santos that does things outside of scoring. A bigger, longer guard, he defends multiple positions, brings rebounding value, and he shares the ball well. He put the ball in the basket, but he did so much more than that throughout Best of the South as well. - Josh Tec
Owen Frayne had possibly the most exciting play of the weekend, hitting a half-court buzzer beater to win the game on Thursday night. To add to this, Frayne showed off his sharpshooting and vision, helping the Monarchs to a 4-1 record. Difficult to speed up, he uses his handle to completely control the pace of the game. He is simply a winning basketball player, and should see a significant increase in his stock in the near future. - Jack Daigle
David Bumpass was a consistent scoring threat for DMV Stags 16U team this weekend, going 4-1. Bumpass has strong slashing abilities and is able to use creative finishes to get his buckets. He had multiple games finishing with 20 plus points and opposing defenders struggled to guard him without fouling. The wing threw down a few strong dunks and showed an ability to score from the outside. We’re excited to see this prospect at future events and would love to see how he progresses. - Theo Han
