Sebastian Akins, Enrico Borio, Matthew Curprew-Elsy, Amir Rosa Shine on Sunday of Atlanta Jam

SUWANEE, Ga—The first live period is behind us. Atlanta Jam has wrapped, and we have a busy week of coverage ahead. Before we do a breakdown of individuals and players that coaches need to get out and see during the remaining live periods, here are some of the notes I took on the closing day of the event.

Sebastian Akins closes on a high note

6-foot-2 point guard Sebastian Akins was one of the best guards I saw this weekend. He may have been the best guard prospect that I saw in 17U.

On Sunday, he capped his weekend with a performance that confirmed that he should be on to-see lists for college coaches. Akins has good feel and looks to facilitate first. Whether he’s throwing lobs or kicking to shooters, Akins makes the game easier for those around him.

He’s a shifty guard that looks to get into the paint and make something happen from there whether passing or scoring.

Akins did most of his scoring damage at the rim when I saw him on Sunday.

This first live period should be a launching pad for a recruiting uptick for Akins. By the time July comes, he should be a target for D1s.

Enrico Borio tests the Suwanee Sports Academy rims

Florida Pro’s Enrico Borio led with 19 points in a win on Sunday morning. He started out with a three, but after that, it seemed like he just dunked his way to 16 more points.

The 6-foot-8 forward flushed home lob after lob and made a statement in doing so.

Borio is far more than a dunker though. He’s a skilled forward that can handle the ball and play multiple positions.

I have a feeling that this Florida Pro team is going to have a different guy impress on a game-by-game basis. They’re so balanced.

Curprew-Elsy fits the Bad Boys Basketball program

Last year, Bad Boys Basketball became one of my favorite teams to watch by the end of the summer. They were tough, scrappy and relentless. That’s what I saw out of Matthew Curprew-Elsy on Sunday when I stopped by to get a first look at this year’s Bad Boys 17U squad.

He did a little bit of everything as a versatile forward. His effort and tenacity are what drive his production. Curprew-Elsy was a presence on the glass, and he constantly looked to attack the rim on offense. He plays an aggressive style.

I’m looking forward to seeing more from all of the teams in this program this spring and summer. This first viewing of their 17U group was a good start.

Amir Rosa leaves an impression

An unsigned senior, Amir Rosa ended his weekend with a 21-point game. The 6-foot-3 combo guard out of Sprayberry (GA) showed off the full compliment of his scoring package by filling it up from all over the floor. The outing wasn’t an anomaly for Rosa this weekend. He opened Atlanta Jam with 17 points on Friday.

Rosa wasn’t just effective in the scoring column. He left an impact on other parts of the game as well. He helped out on the glass and tallied a handful of assists.
