More 2023 Atlanta Jam Underclass Standouts
SUWANEE, Ga—Atlanta Jam saw some outstanding performances out of the underclass ranks. We’ve highlighted some of the 16U and 15U stars already, and we have more notes to unload.
The Wellington Wolves came out of the Atlanta Jam 16U division unscathed, and one of the guys driving that charge was guard Jeremy Tovar. He caught our attention on Sunday when he dropped 18 to close out the weekend. He’s a steady point guard with a knack for getting to the rim. Tovar plays with some craft mixed with toughness, and he’s become a point guard that we plan on checking back in on plenty this summer.
A weekend-ending 18 points from guard Ayden Hansberry helped secure an emphatic win for Iso Joe that capped an impressive, undefeated weekend. He’s a shifty guard that can light up a scoreboard in a hurry. On a team with high-upside players across the board, Hansberry holds down the PG spot well.
The Tampa Wardogs had a successful weekend in Atlanta, and we were on hand for a hot-shooting performance from guard Ian Kyler. The 6-foot-2 guard can torch nets from deep. We saw him drop 7 3-pointers, and that wasn’t an anomaly. Kyler replicated performance multiple times throughout the weekend. He was as consistent of a shooter as there was in the 16U division, no, he was as consistent of a shooter as there was period.
We know about Heze Kent, we know about Chris Perry, but a guy that had a great weekend for South Georgia Elite’s dominant 16U team was Blayne Gunter. He’s a shooting and scoring specialist on a team that prides itself on defense. Gunter can fill it up when he gets hot, and, as is the case with many of the players in this program, he’s playing up. Gunter is a class of 2027 player who was dropping double figures consistently against people two age groups older.
