2023 HoopSeen Tip-Off: 17U Standouts Pt. I
SUWANEE, Ga—Tip-Off was an unofficial beginning to a busy travel season. There’s no better way to usher in one of the best times of the year than to have been in Suwanee Sports Academy with all of the participating teams.
As is the case every year, Tip-Off is a great way to get a first look at teams and prospects this spring. We have filled our notes with standouts from the 17U division.
These are five of the many stars from the weekend.
Pace was one of my favorite guards that I saw this weekend, in part because of his translatable skills. The 6-foot-4 guard is slippery with the ball in his hands, where he can get in the lane and make plays. The junior also has a good feel for the game and passing ability. As we get closer to the evaluation periods, I think we could be discussing him as a potential breakout down the road. - Garrett Tucker
If anybody passed the look test for the weekend it was Goods. The class of 2024 Prospect out of the Greensboro area showed he has a lot of tools and could be a guy that with some fine-tuning could make an impact at the next level, he is a solid rebounder with wide shoulders and a big frame runs the floor, well, blocks shots, and can score around the basket. He gets a lot of his scoring on second-chance baskets and running the floor in transition. - Justin Byerly
Prunty closed the weekend on a high note. He saved his best for last when he led Team United over South Georgia Elite. His potential is obvious. Prunty is a long, athletic guard who’s poised to have a big summer on this talented squad. His presence on defense is difficult to contend with. He uses his physical attributes well on that end. He’s amassing a lengthy list of college suitors which could extend further as the year progresses. - Josh Tec
Houston did a little bit of everything for SBC this weekend. The 6-foot-4 forward is a Swiss army knife type player with his versatility and all-around game. Whether it was knocking down 3’s or providing solid defense, the Buford (GA) product was productive for his squad. Houston’s highlight of the weekend was a 33-point performance on Saturday. - Garrett Tucker
Lavonta Ivery is a name to monitor from the Peach State this spring and summer with Team Huncho. He’s a guard primed for a stock-boosting weekend that leads to offers coming his way. There’s a lot to like in his game. He’s an athletic, quick offensive machine at the point guard spot. Ivery was the catalyst behind points going on the board whether he’s scoring or setting guys up for shots. He was particularly great when attacking the basket. I’ve been high on him for a while and feel strongly about his breakout coming sooner than later. - Josh Tec
