Standouts from Day 1 of The Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines
Day 1 of the National Division The Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines in San Diego featured elite basketball with teams travelling from Washington, Nevada, Arizona, DC, and all over California.
Let's take a look at some Day 1 standouts from the event at Torrey Pines. *Note: St. Augustine and Centennial (AZ) players aren't considered on the list as they didn't play at Torrey Pines on Day 1.
The 4-star is a very intriguing and unique prospect that did a bit of everything in Eastside Catholic’s 60-58 win over Fairfax. The 6’9” PF showed how much of a force he can be around the rim and in the post, hitting shots and dunking on players. He can handle the ball extremely well for his size and even knock down threes. Cofie is a player to watch out in the 2024 class and he’s undoubtedly one of the top players in Washington.

The PF is an aggressive, high impact player that possesses an impressive skill set. He can handle the ball, has high IQ, & is a great finisher inside. One of my favorite 2024 recruits to watch. pic.twitter.com/DY3Bbj2GLk
Four-star JJ Taylor put on a clinic on his birthday in San Ysidro’s win over Monterey Trail. He showcased his exciting play to the packed crowd at Torrey Pines, hitting threes, getting to the hoop and finishing with multiple acrobatic layups and dunks, and displaying his handles. His size allows him to shoot over defenders with ease. The Memphis commit had 35 points.
Big game from 4⭐️ JJ Taylor yesterday at @TheHDayClassic.

The San Francisco commit was unstoppable in a big win over O’Dea in Round One. The 6’0” PG is a very quick player and not afraid to face contact at the hoop, although there were multiple instances he didn’t need to due to his crafty finishing and his ability to shake defenders away. The energetic guard dropped 37 points and will have a matchup with Mikey Williams in the next round.
2023 San Francisco commit Ryan Beasley put on a show in Dougherty Valley's win over O'Dea.

The sophomore was a huge reason why St. John Bosco was able to escape with a win. After a slow start, they went back and forth with Torrey Pines in the final frame and Bonam was big in that last quarter. He hit mid-range shots and finished inside, showing the interior presence he can have with his physicality. Bonam had 20 points and his teammate Delyle Williams hit a game-winner, advancing St. John Bosco who will be in an exciting matchup against St. John’s next round.

The physical forward knocked down mid-range shots & was effective inside on each end as his team rallied back after trailing most of the game. Bonam had a game-high 20 points. @_Kade5 @BoscoBasketball pic.twitter.com/sYj92BiESW
The 4-star and St. John’s won big over Bishop O’Dowd, allowing under 10 points in each of the first three quarters. Davis was exciting to watch and fits right in with his team, a high-energy and emphatic/urgent-styled squad. He got to his spots and converted, found his teammates, and even skied up for an impressive dunk. Davis and St. John’s take on St. John Bosco, a matchup with multiple D1 players.
Was impressed by yesterday's blowout performance from St. John's (DC).

Exciting, energetic squad. Harvard commit Malik Mack is a smooth & smart PG, Donnie Freeman is an explosive/athletic 4, Daquan Davis is a tough bucket-getter. @swaefromig @DonavanFreeman1 @thedaquandavis pic.twitter.com/nLIfvD5qMO
The Long Beach State commit was impressive against San Ysidro, bringing his squad back after trailing by double-digits in the 4th to keep it close. Although Monterey Trail lost, Lewis displayed his elite finishing abilities at the hoop and his aggressiveness on each end, rallying late with some acrobatic finishes and big threes. He had 34 points, 13 in the 4th, and hit five shots from beyond the arc. Monterey Trail next faces O’Dea (WA) in the consolation side of the bracket.
Billy Haggerty - De La Salle
Haggerty was very effective for De La Salle in their 63-35 win over Coronado. He and De La Salle limited UCLA commit Sebastian Mack, pressuring and collapsing on him as he drove which led to fastbreak points. Haggerty had multiple finishes inside and hit a few threes, finishing with a game-high 18 points.
Sebastian Rancik - JSerra
Rancik impacts the game in multiple ways and he showed that in JSerra’s win over Archbishop Mitty. The 6’9” 2024 forward has impressive court vision and uses his size to secure rebounds and block shots. He turned it up a notch offensively in the second half and finished with 17 points in the game. JSerra plays St. Augustine in the next round.
