Georgia Stars claim the 17U Orange Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions title

SUWANEE, GA - It took some grit, some patience and all of the energy left in the tank of a highly competitive weekend to win the 17 and under Orange bracket of the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. In the end, the Georgia Stars reigned supreme to the tune of an 83-62 win over Team Trezz on Sunday afternoon.

The Stars used a major second half surge to hold off Team Trezz, one of the power houses of the HoopSeen Association, to claim the coveted title. The Stars, no strangers to success at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, claimed yet another title in the event’s storied history.

Per usual, it was a total team effort to the title for the Stars. Georgia-bound Mari Jordan scored 18 points, including 12 in the second half. Norcross big man Jerry Deng, an available 2022 prospect, posted 17 points in the win.

The guard play of RJ Johnson and Ant Robinson combined for 26 points. Johnson set the tone with his defensive abilities and led to important transition buckets. Big man Maddy Traore added 11 points in the victory.

The Stars beat Florida PRO, TNBA South Unsigned, BCB Black, TNBA South Teal, Team Huncho and Trezz to take the title.

For Team Trezz, Trey Byrd continues his stellar spring with 21 points. He was an absolute problem throughout the weekend. Torey Alston added 19 points. Keyon Webb put in 13 points.

Trezz beat Game Elite Blue, Atlanta Timberwolves Green, Florida Rebels and Alabama Fusion over the course of the weekend.
