DC's Tip-Off Recap: Day 1

Feels good to be back in the gym, and what better way to start the travel season with the annual Hoopseen Tip-Off.

The regular season is in the books, and now it’s time to get to the summer grind. Here’s a quick recap of my first day of the Tip-Off.

Quick-Takes

I spent most of the night checking out the 16u division, getting my eyes on some of the upcoming talents.

Inspire Atlanta vs. Team S.M.A.S.H would take the court first as this one came down to the wire where Inspire would win 55-50.

Inspire led for most of the game, with S.M.A.S.H keeping the gap close, but the elite play from Ethan Thomas and Grant Patrick helped maintain the lead.

Thomas finished with 14 points and did an excellent job facilitating the rock. I liked Thomas's ability to break down defenders and finish strong at the rim.

Patrick was the leading man with 17, going on an impressive run in the 2nd half. He knocked down some big shots late in the game that would secure the win for his team.

Game of the Day

My game of the day went to the matchup of TRIBE ATL vs. ENG United. I just love the way these two teams came out to play.

The intensity was great, and both teams played solid defense. Every basket was tough to get as both were unwilling to give up any easy shots.

TRIBE ATL would come away with a 54-52 win and was led by Carter Watkins with 14 points as he would be the primary scorer in the 2nd half.

Travate Brown also had a solid game chipping in with 11 points.

Top Performance

The day's top performance would have to go to ‘23 guard Anthony Robison II of the Georgia Stars.

There’s no doubt that this Stars team is loaded with talent, so any one of these guys could have gone off tonight, and Robison decided to be the one.

This 6-foot-3 PG can really do it all, he’s athletic, and his speed with the ball in transition is crazy. Robison has a solid jumper but really thrives on getting to the basket with that quick first step.

He can really get going with his coast-to-coast scoring and is likely to surprise you with his sneaky leaping ability. He finished with 20 points in a landslide victory over Community Saved 73-28.

If this is any indication of how the Georgia Stars are coming this weekend, I would surely hate to be on the other side.
