Georgia Cup Day 2 Notebook

Day two of the Georgia cup was filled with great competition and even a monster dunk that went viral. Read on for my takeaways from the day.

Ahmed Soumahoro Takes Flight

Man, man, man. I still have not found the words to quite explain my exact reaction after watching Soumahoro explode off the floor, absolutely destroying his defender at the rim. It immediately sent the gym into a frenzy. His dunk changed the feel of the entire game, swinging all the momentum in the Quiet Storm's favor. From that point on, his team dominated the remainder of the game. Only standing at 6-foot-2, his leaping ability is insane. After doing some research on him, I noticed that poster dunks are a common occurrence for him. I would not be surprised to see baseline start to fill with cameras when he is on the floor considering he may have thrown down the dunk of the year.

No Ducking From Chaydon Stone

Chaydon Stone was instrumental to the JC Ducks going 2-0 on the day. The 2022 guard out of Jones County plays with a ton of confidence. This kid will go at any person that is standing in front of him. He was effective getting into the paint and dishing it to his bigs for an easy bucket and he was lights out from three in his second game. I'm not just talking catch-and-shoot threes, but he was putting moves on defenders and knocking them down too. While he had a big scoring day, his passing ability was most impressive to me. He threw effortless, flashy passes in both games I saw him in. Do not let his size fool you; Stone is a sneaky leaper that will surprise you at the rim.

Tri-City Elite 15U Shine

The young guns of Tri-City Elite sure have a bright future. This team is literally filled with freshman and an eighth grader that could all be college prospects. 2025 big man Jamariion Palm is an absolute force. Already at 6-foot-8, he can score it inside-out. He made some flashy plays and threw down a couple of big dunks. Freshman Max Skidmore out of the Heritage School is a sniper. I am interested to see where his shooting ability is at by the time he is a junior. Freshmen Tony Coleman and Jalen Hall also impressed throughout the day.

No Shot Zone

Zion Odoms of the JC Ducks is not one that you want to try to go head-to-head at the rim with. I watched this kid block shot after shot where his head was often at the rim. The timing of his blocks could not have been better as he made back-to-back emphatic blocks in the final minutes of both games today. Those blocks prevented buckets that would have given the opposing teams the lead. His athleticism is through the roof and it is evident watching him attack the ball.

Georgia Rebels 2024 Trio

The Georgia Rebels 15U team have a solid freshman trio of Kayleb Jackson, Khalid Miller, and Chaden Williams. All three players are capable of scoring 10+ points a game and playing or guarding either guard position. They definitely stood out over the teams they played today.
