Alabama Team Camp Standouts
Hoover, AL — Alabama takes a step forward in high school basketball with their first-ever Team Scholastic Live-Period Camp.
Teams from south and north Alabama gathered at the Finley Center for hard competition and to iron out the kinks for next season.
Many college coaches were in the building scouting some potential prospects, and I even put my eyes on a few prospects of my own.
Here is the first wave of standouts from my Saturday at the Finley Center.
First Wave Standouts
1. Baker - Labaron Philon ‘24
The class of 2024 number one player in the state was in his bag this weekend, leading the way for Baker High. Being a scoring machine was just another on the floor for 6-foot-4 combo guard Labaron Philon. His game is elite and smooth, he forces nothing on the floor, and his scoring ability comes naturally. Philon is a high-caliber scorer that can be a threat getting into the lane or taking over the game with his smooth stroke from three. He recently just pulled in an offer from Kansas; getting an offer from a Blue Blood is a sign that many other offers are to follow.
2. BuckHorn – Caleb Holt ‘26
Since hitting the travel circuit with Game Elite, 6-foot-5 guard Caleb Holt has become one of the biggest names in Alabama. Hard to believe that this kid is only entering his freshman year, and in a few short months, Holt has pulled in some high major offers. Holt is a pure slasher getting to the rim and has great control finishing through tough contact. He has a quick first step and is truly an explosive athlete. Holt has solid handles and has great control getting past defenders; he knows how to create space for his shot and can really jump out the gym with his tremendous athleticism. Holt continues to make us all believers in how great his going to be, and Tennessee Tech didn’t waste any time as they offered him Saturday evening.
3. Grissom – Izzy Miles ‘23
Izzy Miles, a 6-foot-2 two-way guard from Huntsville, AL has exemplified what it means to keep your head down and just do the work. Whether the game was good or bad, Miles never took his foot off the gas when it came to hustling and effort on both ends of the floor. He probably had the most impactful moments from the team camp bringing in offers from Troy University and Spring Hill College. It’s quite evident that Miles is a tough defender and thrives on putting players under pressure with his quick hands. Miles will step up as one of the primary options for Grissom for this upcoming season, and the way he’s been playing offensively this summer, he looks ready to take on the new role.
4. Westminster – Chase McCarty ‘24
6-foot-6 Chase McCarty is an elite player that provides a lot of versatility coming off the wing. From a college coach’s perspective, McCarty has the exact size and build for the next level. Offensively he can get things done under the basket and around the perimeter. He has a nice stroke from the three and is a big threat slashing the baseline for a strong finish. McCarty does a great job of crashing the board and getting in the right position for second-chance shots. He’s a great shot blocker and has incredible awareness on defense. McCarty has received some great offers from Ole Miss, Alabama, and Cincinnati, to name a few. His potential is through the roof, and people are really taking notice.
5. Wenonah High School - Dasean Sellers ‘23
Standing at 6-foot-5, wing player Dasean Sellers was everything and more at the Finley Center. The first thing that stands out about Sellers is his explosiveness to the basket. He has solid handles with an elite first step. Sellers is a phenomenal coast-to-coast scorer and is strong in finishing through any contact. His shoot from beyond the arch is top-notch; he can spot up but create shots for himself as well. Sellers plays aggressive defense and is consistent with his shot-blocking. During his last game he dropped 27 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and six blocks, showing that he can be a threat on both sides of the ball.
