NCAA Requirements:

Q: What are the NCAA requirements for participating in the Best of the South?

A: Because the Best of the South is a certified NCAA event. Every Coach must be USA Basketball GOLD certified and every team, player and coach participating MUST be registered in the Basketball Certification System. Please note that this is an NCAA rule, not a Hoopseen rule and is MANDATORY for all teams. An outline of how to proceed with all of this is provided below and on the event page.

http://www.ncaa.org/enforcement/basketball-certification/basketball-certification

Q: I am waiting on my USA Gold Background check to come back, can I still enter my roster?

A: No, you must complete the entire licensing process before adding your roster to the Best of the South in the NCAA BBCS. If you have not started the process of getting a USA Gold Coaches license you should do so IMMEDIATELY. Background Checks can take upwards of 3 weeks to return. Coaches who do not have Gold Certification CANNOT participate in Best of the South.

Q: I have an Associate USA Basketball License. Is that okay?

A: No, every coach who sits on the bench MUST have a USA Gold License, BBCS account AND be listed on their teams Roster.

Q: Do my players need accounts with the NCAA Basketball Certification System?

A: Yes, all players must create an account with the NCAA BBCS. If they had an account in 2018, they must use that same log-in information. DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. If they are new to the NCAA BBCS they then can register as a new user.

Q: I have additional questions about the NCAA BBCS and USA GOLD Basketball, who can I contact for help?

A: For help regarding the NCAA BBCS and USA Gold Basketball you should contact somebody with the NCAA Enforcement and Certification Group. Unfortunately, HoopSeen does not have any power to unlock accounts, remove flags, or speed up with Certification process.

Check-In/Arrival:

Q: What time does Check-In begin for Best of the South?

A: Check-In will begin at the start of the day on Thursday, July 11th. Each team will be given a specific check-in time in relation to their first game (1.5 hours prior).

Q: What is needed for Check-In?

A: At Check-In we will need you to bring

  • Photo ID for each CERTIFIED coach
  • At least 5 PRINTED Team score-sheets (we will keep 1)
  • Any supporting documentation to clear roster flags

Please make sure that your roster in the BBCS is set and you are not adding or removing any players.

Q: Why is my Check-In time so early prior to my first game?

A: We make each team’s Check-In time before each game to help teams understand the importance of arriving early to the venue. Downtown Atlanta is known to be one of the worst traffic cities in America. At any time throughout the week (especially Thursday-Friday) teams can expect MAJOR delays to the venue. We recommend each team arrive 2 hours prior to each scheduled game.

Format/Schedule:

Q: What is the format of the Best of the South?

A: This is a pool to bracket event. Meaning each team will start by playing in a round robin pool before advancing to a bracket. How you finish in your pool will determine the seeding in your bracket.

Q: How many games am I guaranteed?

A: Each team is guaranteed 4 scheduled games. Teams who forfeit games due to not arriving on time WILL NOT have that game made up.

Q: What are the playing rules for the Best of the South?

A: Rules can be found HERE.

Q: When is the first game? When is the last game?

A: The Best of the South will take place during the July NCAA live evaluation period of Thursday, July 11th to Sunday, July 14th. The first possible game time on Thursday and each day after is 8am EST. The last game time will be 8:50pm EST each day with the exception of Sunday, July 14th which will be at 3:00pm EST.

Every team needs to be prepared to play at EVERY game time. This includes Thursday at 8am EST and Sunday at 3:00pm EST.

Q: Who do I send schedule requests to?

A: Because of the size and NCAA restrictions surrounding this event. We DO NOT accept any schedule requests for Best of the South. Every team needs to be prepared to play at EVERY game time. This includes Thursday at 8am EST and Sunday at 3:00pm EST.

Q: When will you release the schedule?
