2025 guard KJ Garris has transferred to Mount Vernon, and in his first few weeks with the Mustangs, he’s been filling a role they had open.

The Mustangs needed a guard that could go get them a bucket, and that’s what Garris has been going for them in June so far.

“The teammates are great,” Garris said of his new environment. “I like how it’s god-driven. My coach is amazing. He knows my strengths and my weaknesses. I think we just get better every day.”

Early recruitment

Siena, Kennesaw State, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, Columbia and Georgia State were the first schools to reach out to the 6-foot-3 guard.

Still an emerging prospect in the region, Garris looks to show his strengths for coaches during summer live periods.

“I’m really a leader,” Garris said. “I’m a three-level scorer. I really play hard on defense and rebound as a big guard.”

His recruitment is just starting to take form, but he’s developing an idea of what he’s looking for at the next level.

“A school that moves the ball, plays as a team,” Garris said. “Especially, a hard-driven team that works out every day, works hard. A family.”
