March to Macon: Looking at the 3A Final Four
3A’s final four has plenty of star power and some big-time teams left in the field. 5-3A is made up of four teams, and three of them are in the final four. The right side of the bracket will see a rematch of the classification’s championship from two years ago. The left side will see a fresh face in Macon, and one of the teams could be led by a freshman starting his story in a major way.
Let’s preview 3A’s final four games.
Douglass vs Cedar Grove
These two teams are two of the three representing 5-3A. They played three times this season, and Cedar Grove won two of those.
Douglass has been on a great run during the playoffs after taking their share of lumps during the regular season. The Astros have shined when it counts the most though.
Cedar Grove has been a tough team all season that has picked up some big, big wins. The Saints have a rising star in Manny Green who has been one of the best underclassmen in the state.
JT’s pick: The freshman, Manny Green, has helped the Saints to the final four. They were one of my picks to make it this far. With Jaylen Aside, Darius Reynolds and Elliot Colson, Cedar Grove has more firepower alongside Green. It’s more than enough to make it to the championship game in Macon.
Sandy Creek vs Cross Creek
Sandy Creek has been one of the more formidable teams in the state again this season. Nobody looks forward to having the Patriots on their schedule. In 3A, they’re unmatched from a talent perspective.
Cross Creek has been playing their best basketball at the right time of the year. The Razorbacks have won 14 games in a row and look like they have their sights set on 3-peat.
This is one of the most interesting battles in the state regardless of class. Cross Creek upset Sandy Creek in the championship game two seasons ago, and they won 3A again last year, so they have a developing dynasty. Sandy Creek is looking to get over the hump and capture the 3A championship that has eluded them for the last couple of seasons.
JT’s pick: This feels like a championship game. This was a championship game. These have been the most consistent 3A teams over the last few years. I’ve said that I’m just going to rock with Cross Creek until they don’t win it all. A star like Antoine Lorick can help ensure they 3-peat while Sandy Creek boasts another loaded roster starred by big man Micah Smith. Because I’ve elected to keep riding on the Cross Creek train until the last stop, I have to go Razorbacks in this one.
