March to Macon: Looking at the 2A Final Four

2A never makes for a dull march to Macon. This year is no different than those past with the exception of the major upsets. It’s all No. 1 seeds vying for a spot in the Macon Centreplex.

Any of the semifinal games could reasonably be championship games.

Here’s what the final four is looking like in 2A.

Model vs Providence Christian

Model has been one of 2A’s best teams this season. The Blue Devils have been holding it down in North Georgia with only four losses. Led by Jakenes and Jeremias Heard, Model has one of the most dynamic duos in 2A’s final four.

Providence Christian toppled North Cobb Christian and Spencer to get here, and they boast some lethal 3-point shooters.

JT’s pick: The Heard brothers and Model going up against the sharpshooting of the Providence Christian Storm. This is a tough call. Truly a tough one. Providence Christian has had to go through North Cobb Christian and Spencer to get to this point. No path has been more difficult than theirs. I’m picking them to keep storming their way to Macon.

Columbia vs Westside-Augusta

These have been among the top teams in 2A all season. Columbia is a point away from being 31-0. They have a stout presence at the forward spot in Terrell Wright and have great guards around him.

Westside won 2A last season and has several of the guys back from that team. This year, they’re back in the position to win it all again. Columbia isn’t going to be a tough hurdle to jump, but if anyone can do it, Westside can.

JT’s pick: This is another coin flip for me. Both of these teams have been winning convincingly en route to the final four. Columbia’s season has been too impressive to ignore. The Eagles are 30-1 with their only loss coming by a point. Westside had faced a tougher schedule with games against Grovetown, Cross Creek and Eagle’s Landing among others, but I’m going to trust Columbia to get it done behind Terrell Wright, Jadan Baugh, Rashad Headges, and the rest of the crew.
