March to Macon: Five Second-Round Games to Watch in A-DI/A-DII

March is mere days away, and the march to Macon is in one of its final stages. In some regards, the final bosses of the game are meeting in the elite eight, which means that we’re going to be privy to some quality matchups sooner than most would expect. These are some of the best from A-DI and A-DII.

King’s Ridge at Woodville-Tompkins: King’s Ridge has to be one of the most difficult four seeds to go up against. The Tigers’ road trip has taken them all over the state during the first two rounds of the playoffs, and they’ll make the trip to Savannah to take on Woodville-Tompkins. That’s a tough task with a guy like Alfonzo Ross Jr. leading Woodville-Tompkins. Let’s just say that chalk wins out in other parts of this bracket. If that’s the case, the winner of this game will have a date with Mount Vernon in the final four. Yikes.

Calhoun County at Greenforest: Okay, so Greenforest’s invincibility in A-DII was put to the test against Manchester. The Eagles only won that game by four. Now eyes are on their matchup against a good Calhoun County squad to see if another favorite in this class will go down or not. With Christian Heritage out, the field will be wide open if Greenforest gets bounced as well.

Wilkinson County at Portal: This is the best game in the A classifications. Wilkinson County has been a powerhouse for years, and Portal has some of the best talent in A-DII. While the elite eight will be dominated by what’s going on in 7A, this matchup shouldn’t fall by the wayside for Georgia hoop heads. It’s a fantastic game.

Mt. Pisgah at Irwin County: Mt. Pisgah is the favorite to make it to Macon from this side of the bracket now that Mt. Bethel has been eliminated. The Patriots have to travel down to South Georgia for a battle with Irwin County. While Pisgah is favored to win this game, we’ve seen crazy outcomes when teams have had to go as deep into the state as Pisgah has to for this one.

Hancock Central at Charlton County: Charlton County is one of the few teams remaining that has a chance to unseat Greenforest. Before that discussion can take place, the Cougars have to get by Hancock Central. They should be able to do so, but the march to Macon always sees chaos, so we’re keeping an eye on this one because we’re not ruling out an upset.
