March to Macon: Five Second-Round Games to Watch in 3A/2A
We’re one step closer to crowning champions across the state. The march to Macon advances to the elite eight. Every classification has some high-level games in this round. These are some of the best from 3A and 2A.
Sandy Creek at Johnson-Savannah: This is one of the best games in the state regardless of classification. These have been 3A’s best teams all season, and it feels like a final four game rather than an elite eight game. Per usual, Sandy Creek has the talent edge, but Johnson-Savannah is no slouch in that regard, and they’ll have their place rockin’ for this one.
Hart County at Cross Creek: Hart County is looking to thwart the Razorbacks’ hopes of 3-peating. While they have the talent to do it with a guy like Tahj Johnson, recently history tells that it’s unwise to bet against Cross Creek during this time of year. This is a game with major implications in 3A. If Cross Creek wins, they’re a game away from making it to Macon again, but if Hart County wins, the dynasty will be put on pause for a season at least.
Spencer at Providence Christian: We often discuss the difficulty that comes with Atlanta metro teams traveling out into the state during the playoffs, but it’s not exactly easy to travel from Columbus to Gwinnett County. Spencer is coming off of a state championship in 4A and will look to get another one with their move to 2A. Providence Christian can shoot the lights out and could reasonably deter the Greenwave’s quest for another set of rings.
Columbia at Windsor Forest: This battle sees another top-seeded metro Atlanta team travel to Savannah. That’s a tough ask. Columbia has only lost once this season and has looked impressive in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Windsor Forest is different without D’Ante Bass, but their winning ways continue. Columbia has a tough test on their hands.
Long County at Cedar Grove: We could be witnessing the start of a great high school career for Cedar Grove freshman Manny Green. The Saints are a win away from the final four, and Green is making his presence known. This Cedar Grove bunch has been tough as nails all season and has a legitimate shot at making it to the 3A championship game.
