SUWANEE, GA - The Georgia Cup III allowed our team a chance to see a lot of teams from a lot of levels. We asked our Nick Nelson to unveil some of his top performers from the action.

Good point guard play is always so noticeable when you see it and Cade Lomas was just another example of that. This weekend he had the ball on a string for OTP and never looked out of control or sped up. He drilled perimeter shots from three with great form and got to the paint consistently where he finished with impressive craft and touch. Lomas was also an unselfish distributor of the ball and found open teammates all weekend where they went 3-1.

Brooks was on the end of one the best plays all weekend—finishing a thunderous lob off the backboard in transition. That is the type of athleticism that Brooks possesses and it showed with his game. He got downhill effortlessly where he was able to easily rise above defenders to finish at the rim. The 6’6’’ wing also showed some nice playmaking where he handled the ball and distributed it well while on the perimeter. On defense, his frame, athleticism and long wingspan were too much to handle for opposing players as Brooks was able to get multiple highlight blocks each game.

Dudley has tantalizing potential being only a freshman but was one of the top performers across the board this weekend. The 6’3’’ lanky guard had an impressive all-around game that stood out every time he touched the ball. He was able to get into the lane and finish with ease with his long wingspan and also showed the ability to pull-up from the midrange and from three. Dudley had a real command over the game that was impressive for his age. He also was no slouch on defense as he used his long arms to be a deterrent and was a big factor on the glass too, where he could rebound and push in transition himself.

Nganga Kinyanjui

Kinyanjui was one of the most consistent and productive players all weekend, regardless of age. He showed true point guard ability with him getting by defenders with ease and being an excellent playmaker. Kinyanjui finished at the rim effortlessly with his speed, touch and nice footwork. The freshman also had a nice shot from three when left open which left defenders questioning how to guard him. On the defensive side, he was pesky and used his quickness to make defensive stops and get steals.

Whenever an athlete like Lavelle Minus is on the court you just have to stop and watch. Minus has a great frame and explosive athleticism with a super intriguing set of skills to go along with it. He shot a beautiful ball from deep in what seemed like a swish every time he was left open and hit some contested pull-up jumpers as well. Minus also was one of the best playmakers I saw this weekend where he showed super impressive vision and exploited zone defenses with ease. Defensively, Minus had highlight blocks that made opposing players think twice about going in the paint again.
