2022 Best of the South Georgia Standouts
ATLANTA—Just a short distance from the state’s Capitol building, Peach State hoops were well represented inside of the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. Best of the South saw talent from all over the world, but the local talent shined as bright as anyone. Here are some names that stood out from the weekend.
Seitz has been playing on another level recently. He’s been having a terrific summer whether it was with North Gwinnett in June or with BCB at Best of the South. Seitz’s confidence and assertiveness seem to be at all-time highs. At Best of the South, the 6-foot-7 wing showed a little bit of everything. He won’t back down from bigger matchups down in the paint, and he can create from the wing. We know Seitz can knock ‘em down from deep too. With all of the tools he brings to the floor, Seitz is emerging as a can’t-miss for coaches at the next level. - Josh Tec
If we take a big picture look at the Peach State, I think we can make an argument that McDaniels should be the hottest stock riser at the event. We saw a full array of skill from him as a passer, slasher, rebounder, rim runner and high-level athlete. The state champion from Columbus Spencer is all kinds of intriguing when you think about him as a 20-year-old college player. He has the ceiling that lends well to upperclassmen production at the next level. Towson saw him and offered him. - Justin Young
Wilson impressed on AE5’s run to winning their bracket. He was tough and physical down low in rebounding wars. As a forward, one of his most valuable assets is his jump shot. Wilson has nice touch that extends to the 3-point line. He gave opponents matchup issues throughout the weekend and consistently delivered double-figure scoring. - Josh Tec
There wasn’t a bigger stockriser over the weekend than Noah Melson. In his first live period event with the Allstars, Melson made his presence known. The 6-foot-5 guard slotted in with the Allstars well because of his ability to defend. That’s a priority for that program, and he lived up to it. He also hit timely shots. The potential has always been there, and finally, college coaches are starting to take notice. Melson has pulled offers from Chattanooga, North Texas, Northern Kentucky, Winthrop and Mercer over the last few days. - Josh Tec
Bell was one of the leaders on a North Metro Elite squad that had a lot of success over the weekend. The 6-foot-2 guard brought it with consistency on a run that took NME to the semifinals of the 17U gold bracket. Bell shot the ball well from distance. It was the kind of shooting weekend where you just assumed that everything he let fly was going in. Aside from his marksmanship from beyond the arc, Bell routinely carved his way to the basket and finished well at the rim. At various points throughout the spring, he’s shown a nose for the ball and that he’s a solid positional rebounder. He did that again at Best of the South where it wasn’t abnormal for him to approach double digit boards.
