Georgia Cup III Top Performers

Georgia Cup III was a fun weekend filled with some good basketball. 11 champions were crowned, and I got to see some players that I have not seen before. Check out part I of my top overall performers from the event.

Makhi Hampton, Savannah Greyhounds - Hampton was one of my favorite players to watch throughout the weekend. The kid has an incredibly high motor on both ends along with the size and speed to be a versatile player for his team. The 6-foot-3 wing is long, athletic, and has the ability to create off the dribble and knock down shots on the perimeter. He was the best player for a talented Savannah Greyhounds team, averaging double digits in points and rebounds on the weekend.

Ed Hunter, North Georgia Elite - Hunter is a clutch guard that is not afraid to have the ball in his hands down the stretch. He has a good feel for the game, makes good decisions, and has a solid handle. I liked how he controlled the tempo and orchestrated the offense. In the 16U championship game vs the Savannah Greyhounds, he made big shot after big shot. His soft-touched floater off a back cut won the championship for the Greyhounds in sudden death.

DJ Lansdown, Flame 2025 - Lansdown was a pivotal leader in Flame 2025's championship run. While he is not the biggest or most athletic guard, his confidence is endless. This kid will attack any defender and has little hesitation letting it fly from deep range; he shot the three ball at an efficient clip throughout the weekend.

Devin Long, F.I.S.T - Long is one of those players that does a bit of everything for his team and makes winning plays. While he is expected to be a scoring leader for his team, he is also expected to make big contributions in other categories, too. His play was a large reason F.I.S.T ended the weekend as the 17U champs. Long plays at a good pace with a lot of patience. He scans the defense to find ways to exploit open areas, and quickly gets to his spots.

Jackson Owens, SBC - The guard out of Flowery Branch had a solid weekend of consistent production. This is a player that you can trust to make good decisions with the ball in his hands. He takes good shots, facilitates, and makes plays on the defensive end. Owens shot the ball well from the outside and made some timely buckets to lead SBC to the 17U championship game.
