Georgia Cup 17U Championship
17 AND UNDER: JC Ducks 60, Quiet Storm 55
There was no better way to cap off the weekend than by these two teams battling for the 17-and-under championship. Both squads became appointment viewing as the weekend progressed, so their meeting in the championship game was all but fate. Early on, the Ducks took the lead, and it steadily grew as turnovers hampered Quiet Storm. Late in the first half, the Ducks had a commanding lead. They held a double-digit lead into the second half, but Quiet Storm couldn’t stay quiet for much longer. A thunderous comeback cut the Ducks’ lead to a single possession, but ultimately, they’d hang on and secure a hard-earned trophy.
If an MVP trophy were given out, JC Ducks’ Chaydon Stone would have been the most likely recipient. He had an unbelievable outing throughout the Georgia Cup. Stone finished his weekend by scoring 15 points en route to a championship victory. KJ Reid dropped 13 points, and Ashton Pennamon added 11 points.
Quiet Storm’s Ahmed Soumahoro had one of the best individual weekends of anyone. He opened a lot of eyes with the help of his viral dunk, but his ability to score around the basket was downright impressive. His performance in the championship game was no different. He dropped a whopping 25 points, and most of those came right at the rim. Soumahoro was backed up by Jesse Taylor with 9 points and Fabian DeSilva and Charles Gauthier 8 points each.
