Big updates to the 2024 National HoopSeen.com rankings

The dust has settled from a busy spring of travel hoops and our squad has been in the conference room and moving names all over our big board for the class of 2024 national rankings.

We took our old list, tore it up, put it in the paper shredder and lit it on fire. A new list has emerged and we are excited to roll out our view from the class of 2024.

HOW DO WE RANK?

It is important to start here. Each ranking service has a different approach. For us, we always think from a long-term point of view. We start with projecting at the highest level of hoops - the NBA - and work from there.

Yes, college basketball is very much in our focus. A player’s value in college plays a huge role in our decision-making.

Where a player goes to college and his/her immediate impact certainly comes into focus. The better the fit, we’ll likely lean towards a higher ranking because we believe that player will have a bigger opportunity for success.

THE BIG PICTURE

You’ve probably heard the national pundits bemoan over this class. It isn’t that good, they’ve said. It isn’t that deep. It lacks star power. Who is the number one player? All of those questions have been asked in national conversations. To be honest, a lot of those questions warrant the ask.

We have struggled with naming the top overall player in this class for over a year and that still hasn’t changed. We talked about it ad nauseam online and offline. There were three contenders for the top spot for us - Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey and Flory Bidunga.

Harper, this go-round, got the nod. Bailey may have the most upside and Bidunga may have the biggest collegiate impact. Harper, of the three, was the most well-rounded. With Harper, the son of former NBA champion Ron Harper, Sr., has the most versatility of anyone in our rankings. He is a plug and play and interchangeable value on both sides of the ball.

The gap between the players at the top of this class is pretty close. It wouldn’t surprise us if any player in the top 10 takes claim to the top overall spot over the next 12 months.

THE BIG RISERS

Any time you blow up a rankings list, there are bound to be some big changes. And, more times than not, players are moving up more than players are moving down. But what goes up, something must go down.

Let’s take a look at the biggest jumpers of all.

Inside the top 10, Derrion Reid out of Grovetown, Georgia jumped from No. 36 to 8. The big wing is the biggest jumper in the class when we look at the top dogs in the 2024 group. He’s steadily improved at every step of his young and budding career.

Zoom Diallo, a big guard from Tacoma, Washington, was already a top 25 guy - No. 23 to be exact - but he cracked into the top 10 in this latest update. He checks in right behind Dedan Thomas, the UNLV-bound guard from Vegas. Thomas went from No. 17 to No. 9 and checks in as the top overall point guard in the class.

Aiden Sherrell has enjoyed a big spring with Vegas Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit. The Prolific Prep-bound big man went from No. 51 to No. 14 overall.

Inside our top 25, we saw Arizona-bound Jamari Phillips move up from No. 32 to No. 23 and Jalil Bethea move up from No. 31 to No. 25. North Carolina-bound Drake Powell moved from No. 48 to No. 32 while Duke-bound Isaiah Evans moved up from No. 62 to No. 26.
