Alabama's 7A Final Four Preview
The road to the 7A semifinals has finally arrived, and the state of Alabama moves one step closer to this year’s state championship. There's been some dominant play from each region and a few surprises that have led us to an elite Final Four.
Let’s look at the teams that have made it this far as they fight for a chance to be crowned the 7A state champions.
Enterprise vs. Spain Park
First up is the matchup between the Enterprise Wildcats (22-6) vs. the Spain Park Jaguars (29-7). Both teams did really great during the regular season, and now they meet up in the semifinals to face off for the first time.
Enterprise is no stranger to the final four as they made it to the state championship last season but came up short. 6-foot-5 senior guard
Terry leads his team to a successful season yet again with his great play around the paint and slashing attacks off the wing.
Terry finished the regular season averaging almost 16 points a game while pulling down ten rebounds. Kenneth Mitchell Jr. and Quentin Hayes each added ten points a game doing all the little things needed to win.
Enterprise really thrives on the defensive end, and going for the boards is their specialty, but going up against a team like Spain Park might be a challenge for them.
Spain Park got some pretty tough wins over many favorite teams, but their incredible hustle in the ability to play as a cohesive unit has brought them to this stage.
From where they started at the beginning of the season to now, Spain Park has continued to grow as a team. The size of this team is what separates them from the rest.
Spain Park has so many different weapons on the court; big Colin Turner has been unstoppable in the post and has done a great job closing off the paint.
Elite shooter Zach Gray continues to thrive each game, and Josh Harrington has been amazing from the point with his unbelievable quickness.
Enterprise certainly has the experience of getting to the show, but if Spain Park comes out hot, the outcome could be different.
Baker vs. James Clemens
Next up is the matchup of the Baker High School vs. James Clemens. The face-off between these two is the one to most look forward to.
James Clemens enters the semifinals with a 21-9 record led by senior guard Jordan Frazier, who recorded 1,000 points earlier this year.
This year, they did the unexpected and knocked off defending state champion Oak Mountain to punch their ticket to Birmingham for the first time in program history.
James Clemens is a highly defensive team that makes it difficult to score inside the paint. They really thrive in the full-court press and will make teams pay with their turnovers.
But there’s a team they have yet to face this season, the (31-3) squad of Baker High. This team is truly gifted on the offensive end as they put up almost 69 points a game.
Sophomore guard Labaron Philon has been on a tear this season, racking in an outstanding 25 points and five rebounds per game. He is quick in transition, and his shot is flawless.
Jayven Williams continues to add to that success as he put up 11 points and pulled down four rebounds in a win over Theodore.
Baker may be a young squad, but they should not be taken lightly because if they go on a run, the game will be over before I get started.
