There’s always one player on the floor that brings that certain spark to a team. Their energy and hustle are what transform a team from good to great. Izzy Miles has been one of the select few in the state that’s exemplified these key traits.
Miles is a 6-foot-2 two-way guard from Huntsville, AL, and starts at Grissom High alongside the elite duo of RJ Johnson and Butta Johnson Jr. Grissom is off to a tremendous start. After last night’s win, they improve to 10-1 with the outlook of becoming the overall number one team in the state.
Over the past few games, Miles has turned up the heat on the floor with his aggressive and explosive attacks to the basket. This kid is highly skilled with rock, his ability to maneuver through the defense is very impressive. Miles has an excellent mid-range game and shoots the ball with confidence.
Miles had a fantastic run during the travel season, and one could definitely see the growth in his game each time he graced the floor.
We asked Miles what part of his game he felt he improved on the most and needed to work on.
“I’ve improved a lot on getting to the basket, and my athleticism has improved a lot from our strength and conditioning at Grissom,” he said. “I feel I can improve on creating my own shots and playing defense throughout the entire game.”
Miles also mentioned that one of the aspects of the game that come easiest to him is shooting and getting his teammates open, spoken like a true leader.
College Interest
Mercer, JSU, Tuskegee, Denver are schools that have reached out so far.
When asked what Miles was looking for out of a school, he provided some great details.
“I’m looking for a school that shows the most interest in me and a school that best fits me roster-wise,” he said. “I would also like a coach that pushes their players to be the best they can be on and off the court.”
Getting to Know Izzy
Miles stated that a goal for his senior year is to have a few D1 offers and win a state championship.
Miles wants to model his game after Jahvon Quinerly, a guard at the University of Alabama.
Miles said he listens to TLE Cinco before every game, and his favorite rapper is Big Yavo.
Off the court, Miles likes to keep things simple. He enjoys playing NBA 2k and hanging out with his family.
“Basketball has taught me that if you put in the hard and unwanted work, you will get a positive result at the end of the day.”
