Colin Turner Commits to North Georgia
The Game of Colin Turner
Colin Turner is a 6-foot-9 big from Birmingham, AL. Last season he averaged 11 points and seven rebounds per game. He helped get Spain Park high to a 27-7 record and a deep run in the playoffs. After making an appearance in the 7A final four, Spain Park came up short, but Tuner is determined to make it to the big show this year.
Turner is excellent from the post position; he finishes strong and is patient with his attacks to the basket. Turner gets up and down the floor at top speed and is a perfect clean-up man with his constant grind on the offensive glass.
Last season Turner averaged 11 points and seven rebounds per game and was invited to play in Alabama’s North-South All-Star game.
The Commitment
After receiving an offer from North Georgia in early September, Turner did not take long on verbally committing on Oct 9.
We reached out to Turner to get some insight on what led to his decision.
“UNG has a very strong basketball program,” Turner said. “The Peach Belt is a very competitive conference, and I am looking forward to competing against some of the best players in the southeast. The UNG campus has a great atmosphere; it has the benefits of a large school but has a small school feel.”
Turner also said that the basketball facilities are amazing, and that North Georgia has rivals with many larger schools. And that the community also rallies around the basketball team, so during a normal year, there is a nice hometown crowd.
He stated that he had visited several times for camps and campus visits.
“I can see myself spending the next four years here,” he said. “I felt like I really connected with all of the guys on the team. They have the same passion and commitment for hoops that I do.”
Turner said his relationship with head coach Dan Evans is very good, and he felt like all of the coaches were genuine people.
“They care about the guys as students as well as basketball players. I feel like they are behind me and want me to be the best that I can be,” Turner said.
Turner understands the fundamentals of working around the post and has a tremendous leaping ability under the basket. We asked Turner what he could bring to this basketball program.
Coach likes to play two big men on the court at the same time,” he said. “From watching their practices and film, I feel like my size and my strength can really be a benefit to the team. I feel as if my ability to score on all three levels paired with my athleticism and hustle will provide a big impact for the program as well.”
What’s Next for Turner?
Colin Turner has made his commitment, so what is next?
“I am ready to get our season started at Spain Park,” Turner said. “Now I can focus on getting SP to the playoffs and winning a State Championship.”
Spain Park kicks off the season at this year’s Ramsey Tip-Off Classic on Nov 11.
