Brayden Rivers chooses UNC-Asheville
Another week, another Huntsville High School basketball product is off the board. This time it’s 2025 wing Brayden Rivers, who made his pledge to UNC-Asheville following the July evaluation periods.
UNC-Asheville head coach Mike Morrell targeted Rivers after seeing him in the June scholastic evaluation period. Following that, the Bulldogs were consistently present with all of his games during July with Pro One.
“UNC-Asheville was the perfect fit,” Rivers told HoopSeen.com. “The coaching staff is spectacular. The culture is tight-knit and hardworking, and there are tons of opportunities to grow. That’s somewhere I want to be.”
Rivers had the opportunity to see the UNC-Asheville campus prior to giving his pledge and saw exactly where he would fit in with the Bulldogs.
”We spent most of the day hanging out around campus, touring the facilities and the team dorms. That afternoon I was able to watch the team lift weights and then practice. It was a good opportunity to see how I fit in.”
Rivers, a bouncy 6-foot-7 wing man, drew intrigue from all across the country over the last calendar year with his size, athleticism, and shot-making ability — and, not to mention, he also sports a 33 on the ACT.
As expected, Morrell and the UNC-Asheville staff are ecstatic to land a player like Rivers who brings production and a high ceiling.
Jacksonville State, South Alabama, and Murray State were also among the schools involved in his recruitment.
With Rivers’ commitment, that makes three Huntsville rising seniors who have made their college decision, joining J.D. Gossett (Lipscomb) and Josh Bowman (UT-Chattanooga). Simon Walker and Eli Stapler will also play at the next level and have decisions in the future, too.
