2024 Bama Jam: 17U Top Performers, Part I
Yet another Bama Jam is in the books, and like the previous renditions of the event, there were plenty of standout players and performances. We are beginning our post-event coverage with our top performers from the 17U division, where plenty of players lived up to expectations.
Here are our first installation of our top performers from the 17U division¦
Rickard was arguably the best player that took the court inside the Finley Center this weekend. Playing with the ball in his hands and with plenty of weapons at his disposal, the junior shined at facilitating and showing his feel for the game. Rickard also picked his spots and converted scoring opportunities, whether it was at the rim or in the mid-range off the bounce. As always, his length and defensive prowess were appreciated on the defensive end of the floor. I think Rickard will be one of the most popular players in the South this travel season and he spring-boarded his way in the spring while at Bama Jam.
Tabari Allen is the definition of an all around player. From hitting jump shots, orchestrating plays as a primary ball handler, or anchoring his team's defense, Allen's impact was felt in every facet of the game. Yet, his most impressive ability is his composure and leadership in clutch moments. Time and again, when his team needed a bucket or big stop, Allen stepped up, dictating the pace and making big plays. Cunning was a nice find from the weekend. The Mississippi product is a shifty ball handler. He is smooth with the ball in his hands and did a phenomenal job getting into the lane and finishing around the basket. The Clinton (MS) guard can also hit you with a stop and pop three. Cunning had a nice weekend at the office and is a nice name to keep track of going forward. - Jeff Roberts
Tim Austin lives in the paint. Using his penetration abilities and bag of moves, Austin is able to effectively generate open shots for himself and his teammates at a high rate. Austin is able to use his big frame and speed to keep defenders off balance, while he looks to quickly make the right play. The 6-3 PG also demonstrated soft touch from the free throw line and mid-range. Expect Tim Austin's stock to rise quickly this spring. - Jack Daigle
Larkin led the 17U division in scoring this weekend and he did it in a loud way. The 6-foot-5 forward averaged over 28 points per contest, dominating with his size and strength. Known as a below-the-rim force, Larkin lived up to those expectations. However, his improvement is evident. The Central-Tuscaloosa (AL) product has worked on his touch and shooting ability. He mixed things up in the paint and did a nice job showing some variety with his scoring ability. - Garrett Tucker
