Six potential AHSAA Team Camp blow-up players from the class of 2024
The June scholastic live periods tip off this Friday across the country, as each state has the option to host its own NCAA certified events. I’ll be in Hoover, Alabama for the AHSAA Team Camp at the Finley Center.
With that being said, here are six potential blow-up players I’ll be monitoring from the class of 2024…
After averaging over 30 points per game during the high school season, it’s been a quiet spring for Adair, who is one of the top players in Alabama’s 2024 class. The slippery guard is wired to score and can do so in bunches, and I totally expect that to be the case in Hoover. If there’s a player that goes for 40+ points, my bet is on Adair.
I’ve communicated this a lot recently, but Cullman wing Sam Duskin is one of my favorite players in this class. The crazy part? Hardly anyone is familiar with the 6-foot-4 wing who has legitimate 3&D capabilities. Duskin has shined this calendar year with his shooting, toughness, and defensive capabilities. I’m excited to see how he does this weekend, and he will be in the top 10 when we update our 2024 state rankings.
Harrison ended the April evaluation periods on a high note, as he earned scholarship offers from Dartmouth, Lehigh, Marshall and Troy. I think there will be several college programs on-hand to see the skilled, 6-foot-9 big man who sports a high academic background, too. Huntsville High is loaded with talent, but I think Harrison will be the guy that draws the most attention over the next two weeks.
Grissom lost a lot with their senior class, headlined by R.J. Johnson and Izzy Miles. With that being said, this summer begins a new era for Grissom basketball, and Martin should be one of the beneficiaries. The 6-foot-6 forward has been a shot-maker up to this point in his career, but I think the rising senior will show he’s more than just a shooter. Just read up on how he performed at our Alabama Preview camp last fall.
Taylor had a strong junior season for Central Tuscaloosa and he’s followed that up with a strong spring with the Alabama Celtics. In fact, he was one of the most impressive players from the Grassroots Showcase in Louisville, Kentucky. I expect a variety of different programs to check-in on Taylor, ranging from the Division II to Division I level.
It’s never a bad idea to have a quality point guard on the recruiting board, so how about a guy that can make shots, too? That’s exactly what Sims brings to the table when he steps on the floor. This spring, Sims has shown he can run a team and distribute the basketball on the travel circuit. I can see him showing his full arsenal and acting as a scorer with his high school squad.
